Yeah what is he thinking? Sat on a scholarship, recruited a redshirt, now is dressing the rec center all star team due to injuries. And yes lame duck = fired.

Re: Richaun Holmes!!!
Joyce and I drove over from Sandusky last nite, after completing some business on the lakefront....weather looked OK so we went.... I know you guys have been bad rapping this group and I know that N.Dakota wasn't the Celtics of old...But we actually looked much better than the team we had last year... and you're right re: Holmes...the kid is a PLAYER..
I felt this team is MUCH more athletic, but only wish we had an outside shooter..maybe the kid who's been hurt will come back by MAC time....but we looked woefully shorthanded with all the injuries. And Hambb, was looking for you .... were you hiding or what?

We are going to end up playing mayleben out of necessity later in the year. It's frustrating that they are not running him out there now he'd be much better when we need him

It was probably hard to spot me among the literally 100s of other people there!
As for the team, I'm not convinced we're much better than last year. Maybe a little bit. I really like Holmes and Parker is looking like a real nice player. The ND game is tough to really gauge our team because they were so dreadful inside that our big guys just destroyed them. We can definitely beat teams that don't have a good inside presence, because it masks our total lack of guard play.
Any time we find a team with big bodies though I think we're really going to struggle. I love Holmes but he has still never shown that he can score in the post...even his 20+ the other night were mostly transition and putbacks. I think he had only about 2-3 FGs that were within the confines of a half court offense. Not that there's anything wrong with it, there certainly isn't, just saying we're not likely to run an offense through him against a team with a presence inside.
Parker is the guy that I have hope for. He attacks the basket aggressively and is one of the few guys on this team that has shown the ability to actually finish in traffic with any consistency.
I still think anytime we're matched up with even a remotely decent team we're going to look as bad as last year because we still have the same problem we did then. We can't shoot and none of our guards can consistently create offense for themselves or their teammates. Where we'll improve is being more of a TEAM versus the 2 on 5 show that we tried to run out there last year.
We are definitely athletic, I wish we had used all of our schollies, because we actually have a team now that can play the press and create offense that way in transition (which makes up for our lack of half court offfense). Unfortunately we're so thin it's something of a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition. Wouldn't you know it that the year Orr decides to sit on scholarships would also be the year we suffer multiple long term injuries...

I am beginning to see things more through the logic of you and Flipper at the guard position. While I don't agree that Clarke is completely out of control, he does seem to be, being played out of position. I wonder if Tisdale would be a better point. I think Clarke could really be special at the 2.hammb wrote:No I wasn't hiding at all! Re: Richaun Holmes!!!
Over the summer, when everyone seemed to be ripping this team, I predicted Holmes would be first team All-MAC this season and the MAC POY as a senior. I'm hoping to see that play out.
Re: Richaun Holmes!!!
Yep, we are all hoping to see Holmes be MAC POY as a senior, especially with a new coach. Maybe the new coach will fill a full roster and everything.

Re: Richaun Holmes!!!
Imagine how much better BG would have been last year had Orr actually played Holmes with Black. Parker, Henderson, and Clarke over Kraus and Erger. For all the things this team can't do, they can protect the basket.

And can score around it. Can you imagine if Denney is what we beleive him to be and we get a spot up shooter that can stretch the floor?guest44 wrote:Imagine how much better BG would have been last year had Orr actually played Holmes with Black. In all seriousness, though, what's he supposed to do? People may not think he's a very good coach, but even if he gets fired at the end of the season, he's not fired now. As long as he has the job, he has the job. If he thinks it's in the kid's best interests to redshirt him, even though his own job situation might be tenuous at best, good for him.guest44 wrote:Yeah what is he thinking? I'll be the first to admit that Coach Orr's tenure hasn't gone very well, but he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. IIRC, a few months ago there were people saying that he shouldn't sign anyone because this year was a wasted year anyway, and those scholarships should be saved for the new coach. You can question his coaching methods and his recruiting (and believe me, I've questioned both at times), but I don't think anyone can question the man's integrity. If he's attempting to redshirt a player, I'm sure he feels it would be in the best interests of that player, and the team in the long term.

Re: Richaun Holmes!!!
If I was a coach in a dead year I would either do everything I could to get an extension, or, simply consider it a job interview. Regardless the point of that one season would be to win games. Not doing so is bad for everyone involved this year, especially if you have 2 seniors in their last year who want to win games and a staff of assistant coaches who need wins on their resume. Not recruiting my full allotment of players and redshirting a guy when we currently have 7 scholarship players available is never a good idea. He may think he is helping that kid. But in doing that he could very likely be shortening Cam Black's last season due to fatigue and this team will certainly run out of gas.threestooges wrote:threestooges wrote:Yeah, what's he thinkin?
