Is Scheier also the recruiting coordinator? His special teams have been outstanding, and if he handles recruiting too I'd call him a serious candidate.Globetrotter wrote:That's a mistake on his part if that's the case. If they have their guy before the bowl game happens, they'll go ahead and introduce him. They have to. This is prime recruiting time, and you also don't want the class you've got to fall apart any more than it already has.
Getting a coach in place quickly is all about recruiting -- and is not a reflection on who is interim coach. The interim coach knows this.
If they hold back until after the bowl game to really get this process going, they will end up losing out on too much: possibly lose kids to transfer that might have stayed; lose kids that had previously committed; and lose any chance of recruiting kids that were interested before Clawson was hired away.
I can't imagine any AD worth his salt letting this happen unless every decent candidate on his list somehow gets hired or is eliminated for some reason. Even then, I can't imagine it happening...
EDITED TO ADD: If you remember when Fickell was the interim coach for a year, OSU went ahead and hired Meyer before that team played in a bowl game that Fickell was coaching in (and Fickell was also a candidate for that job). Meyer and the folks he was hiring were focused solely on recruiting during that time and were not involved in the game at all (practices, planning, coaching).
I can easily see something similar happening at BG if they find a coach in advance of the bowl game. They would want to go ahead and get him out on the recruiting trail.

With our bowl being one of the earlier ones it wouldn't surprise me if we name a coach before or after the game. I see no need to wait for after the game though to announce if we have made our decision before the game. In most cases from recent years I remember if a new coach is name before a bowl game they act like an outside observer until the bowl game is over, doing the things BGWriter mentioned in their post.
I would hope this week Kingston is sending out feelers on who is interested and beginning to set up interviews dates, with the interview beginning sometime before the end of next week

Rumor has it Kingston has been flying around making preliminary contact ..... But with solid program we have in place, we should really be looking to keeping the momentum going rather then installing a completely new system. Elko and Ruggiero are gone, Scheier deserves a shot!

He deserves an interview, same as anyone else.mc99 wrote:Rumor has it Kingston has been flying around making preliminary contact ..... Bowling Green deserves the best coach it can find, whether that ends up being Scheier or someone else.
I'm not worried about someone bringing in a new system, because there is a lot of talent in the pool, and I have confidence that if they hire a good coach, he can make that talent work successfully for him in the first year.

It seems like durkin and stud would be nearly unanimously well received and fickel nearly unanimously not
Re: Official Coaching Search Rumor Page
Players make systems work. Clawson and Elko always said the schemes were the same during the 2-10 year that they are now. We need the very best recruiter we can find to keep the talent flowing in.
After watching Eastern Illinois give up half a hundred last night I'm less sold on Babers. How about DJ Durkin as head coach, the Eastern Illinois offensive coordinator, Nick Monroe as defensive coordinator and Adam Scheier as assistant head coach/special teams coordinator (a promotion from what he'd have at Wake)? Win win win win.
