Studrawa for Head Coach!
Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
Stud, Fickell or Durkin. I'm fine with any of the three. Give me a fairly open offense and maintain the current defensive efforts and BG will sell itself.

Love the endorsement from someone who knows Coach better than anyone else here ever could and knows football as well. I was surprised we didn't hear much about him already. I hope he is on the short list.
Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
He and Durkin are my top two and have been since the beginning.

Stud is and always will be a big part of my life. I have always turned to him for career advice and updates. He's a falcon through and through. I keep in touch with him and his family regularly.

Option,
Leave the middle guy out of this .... and I'd think most AZZer's would go along with you. I don't want Fickell...who's being "pushed" by OSU folks like crazy...The Cleve. PD had a HUGE article on why it would be a good move for him...next to this was about a 6" column about Dave Clawson leaving...Damn! IT ticked me off... a guy who isn't even involved with BG (other than being pushed by Columbus) gets 4 times the write up that our outgoing coach gets?

Agree with Den...NO to Fickell. Durkin or Stud. Both are Falcons and would be great HC's. And I think Coach Scheier should definitely get a look...
Den, I saw that in the PD as well. Freakin eh! For all these oswho fans who never give BG the time of day they sure are sticking their noses in our business.

Bg bolt. Have you considered coaching?
Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
Gregory J Studrawa has facebook page under that name. If you really want him, go to his page and let him know your feelings I have! I also sent the recap of the MAC Title Game and the posting of what player are returning. Would he had to thrown his name in by now?

Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
My only concern about hiring a former assistant back to BG is that they have already left the program once, despite being alums. I understand that's the way things work, but I'm more than a little worried that it would hurt recruiting. It's understandable that a representative from another school could point out to a prospective player that Studrawa or Durkin have already exited once and will be looking to do so again ASAP.
I'm not trying to be naive here. It stands to reason that a high school player has to suspect that the coach recruiting them might not be around by the time they graduate. But it seems to me that a coach who left the school previously might be more of a risk.
Studrawa and his family attended St. Thomas More at the same time I did and they seemed like genuinely nice people. So all things being equal, I'd love to see him or DJ Durkin back in BG.

Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
I would think a coach coming back to bg who is an alum would have to seem more settled then some guy who has never set foot on campus
Re: Studrawa for Head Coach!
I've always felt coach Stud seemed like a guy that would be a perfect head coach candidate, based on his personality alone. He was and is a fantastic ol coach, even if I was never thrilled with him as an offensive coordinator. Has anybody watched osu this year? Prior to their final game and his injury I'm not sure they had washed mettenbergers jersey this year...it was always clean.
I like stud a lot and would welcome him back as a head coach. I hope he has let them know he's interested.

Hambb,
Only kidding about this buddy, but I think we'd have wanted to watch LSU, not OSU to see if his jersey was dirty or not.

Anyone who understands big-time college football would know this shouldn't be an issue AT ALL.AyZiggy97 wrote:My only concern about hiring a former assistant back to BG is that they have already left the program once, despite being alums. Assistants who leave mid major schools to go to BCS schools as coordinators are MOVING UP and gaining experience so that they can become head coaches one day. It's the career path the SHOULD take. It's rare, and probably not good, if an assistant coach stays only at one school for their entire career.
To become a better coach, it's best to go to at least a few other schools and learn under different coaching styles and techniques, and go up against teams that offer totally different types of offenses and defenses. In other words: become as well rounded as you can become as a coach.
That is what Coach Stud has been doing, which makes him an IDEAL candidate to go on to become a head coach somewhere -- and a mid level school like BG would be the perfect landing spot to begin your career as a head coach. Especially given the school's recent success and the talent level that is returning.
Oh and as for whether he might end up leaving again...we can only hope he's so successful that a bigger program will want to hire him away! Once again, if he comes to BG and wins a MAC title (or two) and it leads to his being hired by some bigger school, then it's a GREAT trade for BG, and one I'll always take. Because you are getting championship teams and a great reputation as a place that develops good and successful head coaches -- which will make BG attractive to other up and coming coaches.
