If I win the Mega Millions jackpot, this coaching search could get a lot more interesting.

Scheier is doing a fantastic job, but more generally speaking, how do we have a defensive coordinator that was #1 in the conference (and top 10 nationally) in scoring defense two years in a row that doesn't even get an interview? There's something very strange about that.

I'm guessing he didnt want the job or his personality doesn't fit the head coaching role. On paper he should be amongst the top candidates.mscarn wrote:Scheier is doing a fantastic job, but more generally speaking, how do we have a defensive coordinator that was #1 in the conference (and top 10 nationally) in scoring defense two years in a row that doesn't even get an interview? He might prefer being DC over HC.mscarn wrote:Scheier is doing a fantastic job, but more generally speaking, how do we have a defensive coordinator that was #1 in the conference (and top 10 nationally) in scoring defense two years in a row that doesn't even get an interview? Exactly. Not everyone wants to be the head man.
Re: Official Coaching Search Rumor Page
It has to be his choice. Otherwise, it makes no sense. BG certainly isn't going to say no to interviewing someone already on staff who has had such tremendous success -- unless he has shown zero leadership qualities. And that simply isn't possible if you're a major coordinator, I don't believe.Globetrotter wrote:I'm guessing he didnt want the job or his personality doesn't fit the head coaching role. He must be happy doing what he's doing; and he must be happy doing it with Clawson.

You guys are barking up the WRONG tree, if you think Stud is not interested in the position and has not let it be known.

Great...if he's the guy every time we lose the Blade will have 'Falcon's on the Fritz' headlines....

Re: Official Coaching Search Rumor Page
A couple points:
1. The rationale for accepting Dave Clawson's exit was that he's a young, motivated coach who has done his job well and is merely making a natural progression in his career and tripling his salary in the process. We all nodded our collective heads and recognized that this is the way the business works and we probably wouldn't want it any other way (i.e. a maxed out, unmotivated Solich type). Now we've got Elko, arguably Clawson's top assistant, in a position to advance his career and triple his salary as a reward for a job well done and he doesn't want it? So much for that theory.
2. Willie Fritz (if that's his real name) would fit about as well in Bowling Green, Ohio as Bum Phillips coaching the Roughriders in Saskatchewan.
