I'm warming up to this pick. He's been coaching his whole career. He turned EIU around in a hurry. He knows offense. If he can recruit, he's an extra base hit, at least.

He is tremendously charismatic, has head coaching experience and his offense was nuts. If we can somehow keep this defense together I will be happy.

Welcome to BG. Not my first choice but it should be fun. Hopefully he recognizes what has been built for him in all 3 phases of the game.

He hasn't stayed anywhere long, but that just might be a function of being an assistant subject to the fate of head coaching changes.

At 52, he's six years older than Clawson. Maybe this could be his retirement job?

Hopefully he sticks around for a while and doesn't bolt for a bigger job in 3 years or less.

Hopefully we make the Peach or Cotton Bowl next year and he bolts for a bigger job.

I like this hire a lot, seems like the right kind of guy we need to stay relevant as college football continues moving towards big offenses and no huddles. Face it, teams that score in bunches will attract athletes, and I'm not to worried about the defensive side of the ball. I hope some of the current staff remains but I doubt it since Dino will want to bring in his own coaches.

He has the pedigree. His offense is off the charts and with the firepower we have coming back, dang.

Welcome, coach Babers!!! I don't think we'll have a problem recruiting WR's and QB's.....

Dayons_Den wrote:With a coach that has an offensive pedigree I really hope we don't fall back to the Brandon practice of all the best athletes going to the offensive side of the ball. I think that is something that really set Clawson's teams up for success was keeping some athletes on D.
"Babers, best-known for his offensive firepower, has proven to be an effective defensive coach, as well. The Panthers are in the top 30 nationally in scoring defense, red zone defense, and passing defense efficiency. They are also one of the most prolific defenses in the all of FCS at forcing turnovers, as they are sixth in the nation with a plus-14 turnover margin. EIU forced 37 turnovers on the year and ranks first in the country with 23 fumbles recovered".

That is very appealing... :supz:

Also spoke to DJ Durkin. I'm assuming Babers' extensive experience put him higher than DJ. DJ will make a hell of a HC someday.

Obviously too early to know anything, but I'm hoping he retains much of the current staff. Specifically Carney, Monroe, Hunter, and Scheier.

I love how everyone wasn't in favor of this guy when he was first mentioned...but after researching what he's done have changed their mind.
