Bowling Green: A source tells me that Bowling Green has their guy. I'm told it's not Rob Ambrose, Ed Warriner, or DJ Durkin. The other name that was mentioned for the job was Eastern Illinois head coach Dino Babers. CoachingSearch is working to confirm if it's Babers or a surprise hire like a Willie Fritz or Chris Ash.

I am guessing it's Willie Fritz and Factman and Transfer were telling us that earlier in a somewhat cryptic way that they will act like wasn't so when confronted.

also if it is true that we do have our coach, Kingston deserves some serious props for keeping it so secretive and away from all the weeks that you see in other coaching searches.

So Babers is the guy. I'm slightly skeptical of the hire just because he doesn't have that much coaching experience in comparison to some of the other guys. However, his past year at Eastern Illinois was very good. Though I am skeptical, I am intrigued. Welcome to the nest!!

head coaching. Sorry I didn't specify. I figured if we're going to hire somebody who's been a head coach we would pick somebody who has more than two years of coaching experience. That being said, I am liking this hire a lot more as I read more of him. His offenses are sick. And he coached Robert Griffin.

Have met Babers and some of his coaching staff over the last year. Will be interesting to see what he does with all the offensive talent. With Johnson, Green, Coppet and the WR's the offensive numbers could be madden like. Defensive talent is there. A good DC will be key. Hoping some of the current staff get a chance to stay on. Special thanks to Scheier. He did a heck of a job staying positive and putting out a ton of up-beat info. Time to go to work -

I know zip about what his teams did on defense and, since he's likely to bring his own defensive guy along with him, it will be interesting to know what we have to look forward to (or not) on that side of the ball.

"Madden-like" offensive numbers are fine, but we all know that to win the MAC you need some semblance of defense (at least it worked this year). I'd also be curious if this guy has a record against a rival, since that's an area BG has been sorely lacking in success during the past four years.

I'm a bit curious about this hire for a number of reasons, some of which I've expressed, and also because of his age. I honestly don't know what to expect. Are we in a situation like OU here or is this guy hoping to still maintain a fast track to a BCS job someplace?

In any event: Good luck to Coach Babers and welcome to BG! Coach Clawson left you a fully stocked pantry with which to work some magic -- so please go out and cook us up a delicious championship dessert to go with the title game entree we feasted on this year.

"Babers, best-known for his offensive firepower, has proven to be an effective defensive coach, as well. The Panthers are in the top 30 nationally in scoring defense, red zone defense, and passing defense efficiency. They are also one of the most prolific defenses in the all of FCS at forcing turnovers, as they are sixth in the nation with a plus-14 turnover margin. EIU forced 37 turnovers on the year and ranks first in the country with 23 fumbles recovered"
