I'm starting to think this coach isn't going to be at BGSU very long. Let's hope he gives us a fun ride first.

Re: Dino Babers
I wonder what sort of a buyout fee EIU is due from us and I hope we've at least doubled our buyout figure from Clawson's!

Re: Dino Babers
Considering it was his first head coaching job and he was only two years in, maybe we'll get lucky and he didn't have a contract with a big buyout written in. I'm sure there's something, but I'd be pretty surprised if it was in Clawson's ballpark.Dayons_Den wrote:I wonder what sort of a buyout fee EIU is due from us and I hope we've at least doubled our buyout figure from Clawson's!

Whats more pressure? Coming into a program with very high expectations or four teen/tween daughters? Lotsa pressure on that man, but all kidding aside - i think he's a great fit for the program!!

Don't speak in absolutes.MarkL wrote:No. At most he will meet the team, but he should let the current staff do their thing and then he takes over the next day. Would lead to conflict otherwise.Globetrotter wrote:I hope he is involved in some capacity with bowl prep

And what negative effect would that conflict cause. It certainly wouldn't outweigh the potential goodMarkL wrote:No. At most he will meet the team, but he should let the current staff do their thing and then he takes over the next day. Because they are familiar.MarkL wrote:Obviously too early to know anything, but I'm hoping he retains much of the current staff. Specifically Carney, Monroe, Hunter, and Scheier.
Re: Dino Babers
I would find this worrisome. It's too close to the game to be switching around coaches like this. Let the group that began the game prep to complete it. The new coach can focus on recruiting and getting his staff together.Flipper wrote:Flipper wrote:I would bet he isn't...too confusing to the team.Globetrotter wrote:I hope he is involved in some capacity with bowl prep
Or maybe he will be...based on some tweets ths evening Scheier may be moving on to Wake

Re: Dino Babers
I'm not completely sold, but I wasn't sold on Clawson either and I really wanted to see Durkin or Stud get the job.
On the bright side, he'll be able to get the most out of this passing offense. Emphasis on passing.
I'm concerned about the (lack of) utilization of the best crop of RBs we've had in a long time. I'm concerned about the defense even though his defenses were statistically above average. I'm concerned that EIU only won the time of possession battle in 4 out of 14 games last season. I'm concerned that this guy is going to leave as soon as he gets an opportunity to move up.
It's just such a huge philosophical change from Clawson to Babers. One guy stressed ball control, keeping the clock moving and allowing the defense to rest. The other plays uptempo and chucks the ball around. Maybe I'm a little old school, but I still feel the most important games are won by the team with the better defense.

Since there hasn't been a Motor City Bowl since 2008...I would agree with that.Globetrotter wrote:Winning the motor city bowl is next to meaninglessBGWriter wrote:I would find this worrisome. Winning the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl is an important step for the program. There's some excitement building around the team...winning the LCPB against an opponent like Pitt with a high name value would be a great springboard into the following season. It might even get us ranked in the top 25. That'd be a huge boost..
Let Scheier fulfill his commitment to the players and the school and run the game prep as planned. Babers can take the time to put together his staff and evaluate players and lock down recruiting so he can hit the ground running when the dead period ends in January
