Re: Dino Babers
On the topic du jour, I predict Babers' involvement with the bowl game will consist of a nice, smiling interview with the ESPN broadcast crew during the 2nd or 3rd quarter of the game like Gary Andersen, Jim Mora and virtually every other permanent head coach hired closely before a bowl game has done.

Press Conference was just 11 minutes. Not much of anything.
Re: Dino Babers
The reporters really asked, the tough questions.....Hopefully someone asks him about staff in their 1 on 1 interviews.

Re: Dino Babers
That was pretty short, seemed like the university didn't want there to be too much going on as Scheier is still coaching the team heading into the bowl game.

Re: Dino Babers
The two things I really want to know is who is he bringing with him or who is staying coaching wise (which he admittedly probably doesn't know yet) and who else was interviewed for the posiiton (which is probably bad timing to ask Kingston)Falcon137 wrote:The reporters really asked, the tough questions.....Hopefully someone asks him about staff in their 1 on 1 interviews.

Yeah, I don't know...whole thing seemed kinda rushed to me. Perhaps there will be a chance for more formal interviews after the bowl game.Globetrotter wrote:Arent players usually at these things? Schadenfreude wrote:This argument about whether or Dino Babers should be allowed to "stick his nose in" seems silly. Kingston is choosing him because, presumably, he believes Babers is the best guy to manage the program. If Kingston is right, I have to think Babers is smart enough and self aware enough to know the degree to which he needs to participate in bowl prep.
And, let's not kid ourselves. This game is huge.
How smart he is isn't really the argument...the argument is how involved he should be and how important this game is. I think his involvement should be minimal...introduce yourself to theteam and turn it over to Scheier minimal so he can find a strength coach (winter conditioning is hugely important) and the rest of his staff.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Dino Babers
IMO they already made the decision to pull the trigger before the bowl game. Awkwardness is what comes with that decision and that shouldn't have stopped them from truly toasting this moment for the program. It's like having a big birthday cake at the table and you think you can only eat a small piece because your friends are on a diet.jpfalcon09 wrote:That was pretty short, seemed like the university didn't want there to be too much going on as Scheier is still coaching the team heading into the bowl game.
This should have been a big, celebratory occasion to introduce him to the fan base. Half-measures do nothing for the old coach or the new coach.

That's why I prefer they waited until after the bowl to announce a new coach. Scheier gets his chance to coach without any distractions, and they can introduce Babers with no more games left to play for 9 months.mscarn wrote:IMO they already made the decision to pull the trigger before the bowl game. Maybe this is like a hotel or theme park...today was the "soft open" and a bigger deal will be made at a later time.jpfalcon09 wrote:That's why I prefer they waited until after the bowl to announce a new coach. Re: Dino Babers
that entire Presser was short and pretty weak IMO.
No family introduction (by Dino)
No appreciation shown to EIU
No media questions (worth anything)
telling the players they are too polite ??
Not impressed thus far . . .

Then Babers can't talk to his players for 3 months and we lose recruits and players may transfer......jpfalcon09 wrote:That's why I prefer they waited until after the bowl to announce a new coach.
