In The Stone!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

My very favorite FMB tune!! The A-band at last nights basketball game played it and it sounded fantastic!!!

I remember having a tape of the FMB playing it when I was in high school and playing it in my car all the time! GEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

*GAG*

Maybe not a lot of people in a-band agree with me, but I can't stand it. It's an okay song, but I hate the arrangement. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the flute part goes something like this:

Rest nine measures. Play one measure.
Rest nine measures. Play that same measure again.
Repeat twice more.
Play four measures of whole notes.
Rest fourteen measures.
Play that measure from the beginning again.
Rest four measures.
Play two measures. The end.

Ahh, but the Tuba soli after a few bars....ya can't argue with that (assuming the people playing it know what they're doing). I too, like In the Stone, and thought that it sounded good last night. Long live the Maggot....

I love the song; I just wish we played it better.

When we played that in the Fall of 2001 it rocked! Last night didn't sound too bad either and I think with some more practice before we go out for the game, we could play it great now, too!!

Have you "kids" heard the original Earth, Wind and Fire song?? OMG, it's AMAZING, and the FMB's arrangement is perfect!! (I'll post the MP3 if you all want to hear it)

Flutes don't belong in the song anyhow... so you have no place to complain. ;-)

The tuba soli, the trumpet solo punctuated by the ba ba ba BAMP of the whole band. Damn... I LOVE that song!!!

I'd be okay with that if only we had some fun stuff to do like in I Feel Good... yes, I'm easily bored... I'm a flute player, we're supposed to be high-maintenance.

Of course, I suppose I could just sit back and enjoy the song. (Who does that?!?!??) But I've always been too busy counting rests to actually listen. :P

Kidding. I just had to get in my rant about In The Stone. Done complaining now. *grin*

oh yeah. EXCELLENT song. we actually have to beg the directors to let us play it every game... sometimes they end up letting us.

i heard it long before we played it... heck, long before it was in drumline. what an awesome song...

I don't think it's too bad...if you get the right tempo going, and the right group of people playing. I enjoy the euph part...it's melody!
