The more I watch the footage, it does look like Lynch was trying to knock the hold off his jersey. And #82 from Pitt doesn't do anything but get up and run down the field. But it doesn't look good. I recall during the game screaming "what the hell is Lynch doing??" cuz it did look like he was throwing punches.
Thoughts?

Not. Ray Bentley acted like Lynch was Jake LaMotta and ESPN kept harping on it over and over by only showing the tail end of the clip and not what prompted it. The people paid to make these determinations called offsetting penalties with no ejection.
How about when the Pitt player slapped Coppet on the chin, prompting him to shove the guy back and of course get called for a penalty himself?

Re: Punches or not?
Players have to be disciplined not to respond when someone hits them illegally. We all know it's the second guy who inevitably gets caught and penalized. It seems like no matter how much coaches drill that into the heads of players, they still end up responding, instead of walking away. I guess there's too much testosterone flowing by that point.
Except, it often ends up hurting the team.

I think the sorta late hit on Greene when he was on the ground actually woke us up and made it a game. We were down 17-3 and just going through the motions and this seemed to fire us up finally.

Re: Punches or not?
It wasn't just that the hit on Greene was a touch late...the Pitt defender clearly lead with his helmet into Greene's head. I thought the refs really blew farm animals. They missed a ton of chippy crap or let it slide and it just lead to more chippy crap as the game wore on. They missed a number of easy holding calls on 82 blocking downfield. They never call the hold when a WR keeps his arms inside the DB's body...but that kid grabed our guys by the arms a few times and they never called it.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I thought for sure it was a pnealty and he should have been ejected but on the replay it does look like he is just trying to nock the hands off.
