Who makes the big show?
Seasons over, seniors are on to real life I always root for them to at least get a chance at the big leagues before they become a part of the more typical workforce. So who do you think has the best chance to make a training camp team, get a tryout, make it all the way to a 53 man roster?
Matt Schilz 6-2 209 Sr® I bet he gets a tryout. His numbers are great and he has a solid arm.
Patrick Brown 5-11 182 Sr®
Jordan Hopgood 5-11 220 Sr®
Tyler Beck 6-2 257 Sr
Shaun Joplin 6-2 209 Sr®
Alex Bayer 6-4 257 Sr® I could see him sneaking on a roster. He fits a find the spot in the zone Heath Miller type role
Dominic Flewellyn 6-3 278 Sr Undersized but lots of experience. He will get a tryout
David Kekuewa 6-2 311 Sr Certain tryout, I could see him on a practice squad
Brian Schmiedebush 6-3 226 Sr® Likely tryout, big leg that a coach will think he can make more consistent
Ted Ouellet 6-3 284 Sr®
Jairus Campbell 6-5 296 Sr®
Ronnie Goble 6-2 243 Sr®
Paul Swan 6-0 236 Sr®
Jerry Gates 5-11 219 Sr I bet he sneaks on a team. The NFL is switching to more nickel defenses and he can play nickel lb and special teams very well. If I was a betting man he would be the guy I would bet on to be on a roster come August.
Cameron Truss 5-10 183 Sr®
Aaron Foster 5-10 207 Sr
Josh Pettus 5-9 197 Sr
Matt Schilz 6-2 209 Sr® I bet he gets a tryout. His numbers are great and he has a solid arm.

Matt Schilz
Re: Who makes the big show?
I give Matt Schiltz credit for the way he handled this year, but what in the world makes you think he can play at the next level? Not mobile...makes poor decisions with the football...arm strength is just average.

I was saying he may just get a look in a camp. He has decent numbers and his arm isn't bad. I think his decision making regressed and that might have to deal with coaching and his confidence.Rollo83 wrote:I give Matt Schilz credit for the way he handled this year, but what in the world makes you think he can play at the next level? Re: Who makes the big show?
BooBoo will be in the NFL. Bayer has a chance to be a great TE and I bet he would fit in well at NE. Paul Swan should get a look. I think Matt Schilz' playing days are over but he is a smart guy and will use his degree well.

Also ... Chief played well this year. He will get a good look. Brian S will get a good look. If Aaron Foster played more than one year at CB I'd think he would get a serious look. He outplayed Truss much of the time and Truss was a four year starter.
Gosh I'm going to miss this senior class. Among the best in BGSU history.

Matt Schilz's arm strength is not average. It is extremely good in my opinion. That alone is why I think he will get a look somewhere, maybe not the NFL. A tryout, maybe not much of a chance at making the team.

Your unparallelled ability to love every single player-coach-bg event used to annoy me. Now I love it. I bet I could find the same exact post from you last year. You and Falconfreak90 should be employed by BG.MarkL wrote:Also ... Chief played well this year. He will get a good look. Brian S will get a good look. if shilz can't make it in the mac, he can't make it anywhere. Time to think about that teaching job.
Re: Who makes the big show?
I think booboo will sign as a udfa but likely not make the final cuts. Probably a couple others will get a look, but don't really see any NFL talent on this squad.
Re: Who makes the big show?
Gates and Bayer are the only 2 I could see having a chance.

Re: Who makes the big show?
I think Schmiedebush, Gates, Chief, and Bayer will all get looks/sign as UDFA. If teams need a punter I think Schmiedebush has the best shot at making it as long as he can be consistent like he has been most of his time year (junior year excluded). Gates kick return ability may help his cause as well

Brian, you know the NFL better than most other people I know, so I'd take this as an accurate analysis.hammb wrote:I think booboo will sign as a udfa but likely not make the final cuts. Probably a couple others will get a look, but don't really see any NFL talent on this squad.
I love Bayer, but he's not the freakish athlete NFL coaches love in their TE. I'd really like to see Schmiedebush get a look, if only because our P/K play has been so horrible since Suisham left that it would validate that we've at least made progress. But at the end of the day, I think you're right, as much as I love this SR class, there aren't any NFL-level players.

Re: Who makes the big show?
If Tony Scheffler could find a niche in the NFL...Bayer might. Boo Boo's ability as a special teams guy will help him. I think if Gabe Martin recovers fully he has a shot. He's a touch undersized, but he's shown he can drop back and cover and go sideline to sideline.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Who makes the big show?
Bayer has the size on paper that NFL scouts love. I think his size, combined with his ability to run routes and catch passes will give him a shot. Where he will have a problem is in the area of blocking. He will need to improve his strength and technique if he's going to be able to block NFL ends and linebackers. If he lands on a practice squad and gets a year or 2 to develop his blocking, then he could have an NFL career, in my opinion.
Schmiedebusch has a shot too. I don't know what the numbers say, but from watching him over the years, in the limited opportunities he's had in them, he seems to punt much better in domes. He hit some bombs in the bowl game this week. I wonder if any NFL scouts for teams that play in domes have noticed and will give him a shot. I have to at least think he will get a tryout or 2.
