Three River's Classic

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

The teams got to hear Dan Bylsma talk last night and he was wearing his BG jersey!
Check out the Twitter feed:

Also, here is an audio clip of an interview with Jerry York where he talks about his time at BG:

I'm headed to this tourney! Anyone else going?

GO FALCONS!!!
BEAT THE EAGLES!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."
~~USCHO Poster
"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I'm going! Heading out in a few minutes from Ann Arbor. It's been a while since I've driven in downtown Pittsburgh... This should be a challenge.

Jerry York said this will be the first time playing Bowling Green. Huh? We've played them 4 times and lost every game. #-o

Pretty sure it's 6 times. According to the article on USCHO, he's 4-2 against BG. If my memory serves me correctly, BC played in BG, and lost, during the Buddy Powers years.

edit: 96-97 BG beat BC in BG on Oct 18-19 by scores of 8-3, then 4-2.

BG already down 3-0 to BC in the first ten minutes.

Falcons score, but whistle blows before play is dead and goal called off. Announcers made it seem as though the puck was in mid air when the whistles blow.

Much better effort on Saturday. We came out really flat on Friday and gifted BC a 3-goal lead. All were soft goals, all could be written off to both a lack of focus from a single defenseman and mistakes by Burke. The 2nd and 3rd on Friday were much more competitive, with even shot totals and a respectable share of possession. It also hurt that BC was noticeably faster than us, with crisper passing and some breathtaking individual skills. You can't make mistakes against a Jerry York team and expect to win.

Game 2 was much better from our end. Better effort and hustle from the start, we dominated the first and looked solid on special teams. We outclassed RMU physically in much the same way that BC outclassed us. Stupid penalties down the stretch again showed our discomfort in playing with a lead, but we managed to survive. The final score is not as close as the game was, we just lost some focus down a man at the end.
