The 2014 football schedule

Post by BGSU33 »

Last year the schedule was released on March 1st, so I assume we should be seeing it released again this year in about two months or so again. Our non-conference schedule is below (home vs Indiana and VMI, away at Wisconsin and Western Kentucky). Unlike last year when we played a MAC game in the second week, our first month is all non-conference games. I actually like that format better.

If we play all the East schools again this year (which I really hope we do again after going through a four-year stretch where we didn't when we missed Temple twice and Akron twice), we should see a reverse schedule of the home and away teams we faced last year which would be home vs Buffalo, Kent State and Miami; and away at Ohio, Akron and UMass. As for the West crossovers games, we'll be at Toledo and host a West team. We haven't played Ball State in four years so they could be in he mix for us. If we don't play a full MAC East schedule again, we'll have another contest against a MAC West opponent.

And an added note, I hope we DO NOT move a home game off campus again liked we did vs Buffalo in Columbus two years ago!!! I understand why we tried it, but please, DO NOT do it again. The atmosphere and crowd was pathetic. We only play a few times at the Doyt every year, please don't give any more home games up. If our opponents want to do it with their home games, I will gladly play a neutral site game over a true road game. But I do not want to see us do it again. No thanks!

Non-conference games:
Aug. 28 at Western Kentucky
Sept. 6 vs VMI
Sept. 13 vs INDIANA
Sept. 20 at Wisconsin

Possible MAC home games (if we play all the East teams in 2014):
Buffalo
Kent State
Miami
TBA vs a MAC West team

Possible MAC away games (if we play all the East teams in 2014):
Toledo
Ohio
Akron
UMass
GO BG!!!

We're due to play Ball State or NIU this coming season so I'd expect to see one of them on the schedule.

We played NIU (in the regular season) just two years ago but it's been four years since we've played Ball State. But who knows when it comes to the schedule makers. We've seen teams like us go through years of not playing all the East schools while one has never not played all the East schools, and we've seen some schools pounded by tough crossovers while some are given easy street.

We should also see CMU soon. We haven't played them since 2010.
Last time we played each non-rival west team ...

Will be very disappointing if we don't enter the conference schedule next year with a record of at least 3-1.

Got to be a little concerned Wisconsin just lines up and runs over us like they have done in the past. Hopefully the offense can go toe to toe with Indiana this time because we know BG struggles with big athletic receivers too.

I feel like the west crossover has to be Ball State, especially since its at home. Since returning to the east division in 2005 we've only played Ball State twice (2005, 2009) with both of those being road games

EAch new year I anticipate our non conference games (BCS) with high hopes. I will enter the 2014 season with drawbacks after seeing the Indiana and Pitt games this past fall - their running games manhandled us.

That's understandable. Hopefully Coach Babers has us ready to go in these power conference games.

I want to win every game. But if we beat WKU and VMI and lost to IU and UW, but also went 8-0 in the MAC, won the MACC again and won a bowl game, I would be thrilled. I have seen us beat Top-25 Purdue and top-25 Pittsburgh, beat a Big Team team in Northwestern in a bowl game and also Northwestern on the road, beat then-Big 12 Missouri and Kansas on the road, etc. But winning the MAC Championship was better IMO. Maybe part of that had to do with how long it had been since our last one, so I will say that added to it. But if we won the MACC and a bowl game next year, it would be one of the best finishes to a season in a long, long time.

I was at most of those games as well and it was a killer feeling walking out after beating those teams. MAC Title is the ultimate prize every year but if BG is gonna get to the next level, we gotta beat those mid to lower power conf teams and do it consistently. I hate the fact we don't have a win like ut beating Michigan and Penn State...or Miami beating LSU, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. I'm sure Boise State loved winning the WAC every year AND beating up on bcs teams.

We sure had a shot at Ohio State the year we lost by 7. I still remember that dropped TD pass in the end zone and I still think BG recovered that fumble at the end. Ugh! The year we whipped Mizzou at home with Brad Smith and Justin Gage on their team sure felt awesome too! And this year, we lost to a pair of teams from the SEC and ACC by a combined 4 points. Damn. Winning one of those would have been great. But the way I felt in Ford Field almost a month ago was amazing. The team played their asses off, the BG crowd in terms of enthusiasm was the best I've seen in years (way more energy than the bowl crowd for Pitt despite that being bigger). There's something special about winning a "championship" to me.

To me, BG getting to the "next level" is winning the MAC Championship and the bowl game. Ending the season with a pair of "titles" cements your stature as the best. For years we racked up wins over BCS teams and even won a few bowls, but we couldn't win the MAC and a bowl. BG hasn't done that since 1992. This upcoming year will make 22 seasons since we last did it, and despite how good of a season we had this year, it ended sort of sour by failing to close it out with a bowl win. That is something next year's team could do.

I've still got Mitch's DVD of that osu game. I don't think we recovered that fumble at the end. I flat out KNOW it.

That's the holy grail for bg football to me. And it's the only time I root against the other Mac teams in ooc play. Osu hasn't lost to an in state opponent in over 100 years. When that streak ends I want it to be against bg.

I hope I live to see a MAC team take Osu's head off and bring it back on a platter to Oxford, Athens, Toledo, Akron, Kent or better yet Bowling Green! :D
