Just something that didn't get pointed out before - what is being said is only as important as WHO is saying it. LOOK AT THOSE NAMES! If I was a politician, for example, and I passed away, and I received praise from a president, some congressmen, senators and various former heads of state, that's pretty damn impressive.Globetrotter wrote:These things are all great to hear. Take those comments for what they are.Warthog wrote:Maybe he can get Gillen to be an assistant?![]()
Those are some great comments from what I would consider knowledgable basketball people. Here are the ones that resonate the most with me:
"He embodies character, enthusiasm, and hard work"
"He's a man with unbelievable integrity and faith"
"He's a very, very outstanding man. He's got great values and a pretty even temperament. He's the Tony Dungy of college basketball."
What "they're" saying about Orr....

If you were a politician and you passed away you would receive such praise...you are right. that is the point of my response. You can take these things with a grain of salt....positive things would be said about anyone in this situation.....Falcon30 wrote:Just something that didn't get pointed out before - what is being said is only as important as WHO is saying it. Now for Dickie V to go out of his way on his blog or whatever to mention this hire that is an entirely different thing. That to me shows he means it.
Heres to hoping Charlie Coles and Louis Orr grow old together here in the MAC
Put a winning team in the old barn and the crowd will show up, easy parking or not.
When I go to a game game now I park in the lot by the heating plant on Pike Street and walk my 55+ fat a$$ to AA. The walk back to the car gives me a chance to wind down from the game. I'll walk farther if I have too to enjoy a competitive, winning team.
Long live Falcon basketball (both genders) and long live Louis Orr and Curt Miller.
Forward Falcons!

Got the chance to see Jim Boeheim at a meet-and-greet charity event in western New York. I asked him about Coach Orr and he reiterated that he'll do a fine job here because of his coaching abilities and personal character.
There's a great story in Rick Pitino's book Born to Coach about Orr being his first recruit when he was an assistant under Boeheim at Syracuse. He had just taken the job on his wedding night in New York City and had to leave the next day to make a priority recruiting visit to Cincinnati. The player he was after? Louis Orr. He later coached Orr again in the NBA when he bacame coach of the New York Knicks.

I WAS WRONG!! He didn't smell .500 ball for most his years. Pack it up Louie! Time to go. Just resign and save some face. What a joke of a head coach. Good man, horrible basketball coach. Isn't St. Aloysius looking for a head CYO coach for their 6th graders?CrazyFan wrote:I am by no means trying to be negative or say that everything "sucks". I myself hate all that negativity. I however do not think this is the "great" hire that 98.5% of this board is trying to make it out to be and am voicing my opinion on that. That's what the boards here for, right? I'm still going to follow the BGSU Mens Basketball Program (even though I have a bad feeling were going to be playing .500 ball for the next 4-5 years) like I have throughout all the bad Dakich years. But I think GC made this hire more so because "he has big east experience" and won some big east games more than he went through the process of finding the best coach with the best fit. But AGAIN, this is my opinion. I'm not trying to be negative one bit; just a feeling i have. And if/when I'm proven wrong ill gladfully deny the whole thing.
Re: What "they're" saying about Orr....
Spot on. Not only did he not play .500 basketball, his teams played it in such a fashion that the program is dead. Louis Orr the program killer.

This is the last time I ask Jessica Alba for advice on a coaching hire. For this hire, I say we consult my new celeb crush, Kate Upton. She's been around various athletes with all her supposed love interests, so maybe she learned something?
Oh, and I have to say I really miss Bleeding Orange & Jacobs4Heisman around here...

Dakich? doing better than ever. Replaced poorlyNWLB wrote:Lets look at this from yet another angle:
Of the major questions facing Greg C.:
Replacing Dakich
Keeping Miller, if possible.
What to do about Hockey?
What to do about Brandon in a couple of years.
What to do abut the convocation center.
What to do about the hockey venue.
.
Miller? big and rich in Indy team in top 25
Brandon shot himself in the foot
the Convocation Center? we have an empty Stroh
Hockey making strides
Greg C ? got the hell out
