Public Enemy: Fear of a BLACK HELMET!!!
Re: Public Enemy: Fear of a BLACK HELMET!!!
C'mon, don't mince words............how do you really feel about the facemask?
Re: Public Enemy: Fear of a BLACK HELMET!!!
I don't think the facemask part is necessary but otherwise I think they're cool.

I like the look of the helmet you designed a lot, but think the same effect could be achieved with a VERY dark brown...thus getting the uniqueness of the dark helmet but still maintaining actual team colors. Didn't the basketball team just wear a very dark brown uniform against Xavier? I think a lot of people THOUGHT they were black unis, but a friend of mine who was at the game texted me and said they were dark brown, and when I looked closer that seemed to be the case. I thought they looked good. Use that same shade on the matte-brown helmet, wear with a brown jersey and white pants and you've got one sharp looking uni.
Personally I'd also mix it up and use the old abstract falcon head logo in orange (with thin white outlines to set it off from the brown)...would look pretty cool and also appease us 30+ somethings who still prefer the old logo.

Pretty sure Nike does the NFL uniforms now and the Cleveland Browns obviously wear brown.Class of 61 wrote:I don't understand the current infatuation with using BLACK as a replacement for our traditional school colors. I'm not opposed to new looks, got used to the white helmet pretty quickly, but this black stuff frankly turns me off. And it seems as if we're just copying what other schools have done.
I know for a fact that our contract with Adidas is in its last year, and that they allegedly don't "carry" brown as a standard color...and our new AD has said he'll look into all choices.
My son said that Under Armour has a color that they call Cleveland Browns Brown or similar... no reason we can't use our school colors in a different way without going to odd colors.

I actually really like our new logo. People know we're BG when they see it. I can't tell you how many times I heard people ask what was on our helmet when we had the old "LT" Falcon gear logo. That is the epitome of a poor logo design. When people don't even know what it is - or who it is in this case - it defeats the point all together. Changing the logo to what they did was a big improvement.

I really like the brown "leather" shell. With the peekaboo Falcon logo it would look pretty sweet.

If the player like the black helmet, decorated facemask and any version of our logo then go forward. The young guys gotta wear it and they are most likely to pick something that resonates with HS recruits.
I just don't understand all this loyalty to brown and orange. I'm ok with our colors but least be honest the push away from those colors has always been there. When I first bought season tickets they gave me a black t-shirt as part of the package about 15-20 years ago. When I arrived on campus in 87 the bookstores were all selling green and blue and even red BGSU or simply generic Bowling Green sweatshirts. While I was at BG Burger King had a promotion where they gave away royal blue BGSU sweatshirts.
In my opinion black and gray are minor tweaks compared to some of the other modifications I've seen. What the heck let's see what a gray helmet looks like.

I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Miami went to some new unis this past year....thought they'd make the players LOVE the new look....they loved it all right...just played well enough to get their HC fired midway thru the season... And I don't think this new look for them was all that sharp...brighter, yes, but ???

I actually thought Miami's uniforms and helmets were pretty badass.

Perhaps you are on the wrong board, then.FalconTurf wrote:I just don't understand all this loyalty to brown and orange.

I am more of a traditionalist. Our school colors are orange and brown. I don't mind alternative uniforms occasionally if they are in our colors...especially if they appeal to the younger generation. If you want to wear other colors...then you should go to that school. If schools start wearing alternative colors then why have any school colors at all? BG can come out in lavender and Toledo can wear teal next year.

See, I still think those are just REALLY dark brown. My opinion. I have a suit that is extremely dark brown to the point it almost looks black in certain lighting, those b-ball uniforms remind me of that. But, I could be wrong. They look black to me:
