BG v Akron

Post by BGSUE »

Control Tecca and Luburgh or at least limit their touches

We make shots, run offense, rebound if don't do first thing

Defensive rebounding

Hopefully some court time has helped wind and legs no practice slowed first half at Kent

YOUCAN!!!!!!!!

Looking for BiG crowd for game not just second half with men playing 4:30

Cabin fever cure

Wear your ORANGE

If you listen closely you can still here Curt singing the praises of Jodi Kest and the Akron program from Bloomington.

Butter 'em up to make the victories that much sweeter.

Enjoyed reading Hackenberg's column about BG:

Nice to see the recognition given to Jasmine Mathews. Her return to full strength has been important, as she does a lot of things to help the team. She doesn't score a lot, but it seems like every basket she makes is a big one.

It was a joy to see Jas and her happy feet :-) It's been a struggle to watch and a joy to see her get stronger each and every game this season. She still has a sweet touch and she's finding her range again.

It was also a joy to see Lex get two for one in the nasty pick she set for two Akron players LOL

One thing that is unnerving to me at this point is that when BG started conference play, their RPI was 35th in the nation. After starting 3-0 in conference play, that ranking has dropped 9 places to 44th. Why is this happening? Well, the simple answer is that the MAC collectively is worse this year than it has been in a very long time.

Of the other 11 teams in the conference, only Central Michigan has an RPI of under 100, they rank 58th. Their lofty ranking is despite a 7-8 record, but the Chippewas have played the 29th toughest schedule in the nation, which helps their cause greatly. After CMU, the teams with the next best RPIs are Ohio (122nd) and Ball State (124th). In a typical year, there will be at least 4 MAC teams in the top 100 of the RPI, with 3 of those in the top 75. We're not seeing that this year.

What's worse is, if you take the statistics and computers out of it and just consider win-loss record...only 1 team in the MAC outside of BGSU has a winning record. That's Eastern Michigan at 8-3. Their nonconference schedule has included beauties like Missouri-Kansas City, Detroit-Mercy, Wagner, and Monmouth, all of whom have RPIs north of 280.

Basically the conference sucks, and with the possible exception of this week when we have to go to Muncie and Mount Pleasant, I think we're going to struggle to maintain a tourney-worthy resume even if we win every game. It's too bad. I don't like it. But that's the reality of the situation.

Lose even one contest against a team not named Central Michigan, and you're definitely going to need a MAC tournament win to reach the NCAA tournament.
