Interesting article, seems like Babers is taking a more laid back approach with the team than Clawson did, not sure if that's good or bad. As for starting players, I'm pretty sure most of the returning players are okay to play in this system, however it does concern me a little bit that the WRs outside of Moore lack consistent speed to get separation. I am glad to hear players who have considered transferring have rescinded that request.

That seems pretty normal...knee jerk reactions that are tempered by the passage of time and the hiring of a new staff.

Carle has a way of eliciting great quotes from BG coaches. Mat drills (overseen by Meyer and Hillmann) were credited with resurrecting our entire football program. They also just contributed to the demise of the coach at UMass, even though their strength coach has been retained by the new guy. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

A disciplined approach (on and off the field) is a prerequisite for success. As others have noted, Baylor had 17 penalties in their BCS game and that's certainly not something we want to replicate. The good thing is that Babers has two successful years as a head coach away from that program that validate the effectiveness of his own approach to winning games.

He was not at the MACC. Clawson was still the coach and we hadn't started looking for his replacements. Pretty sure he meant the bowl game, we all know that he was hired and was shown on the field there.

My thoughts exactly. Only time will tell. It's why I wasn't excited or disappointed about the hire. I need to see how and what pans out first before I can give any input about what I think about it. Right now it's all speculation. I just trust we made the right hire and that he's the right guy. We'll find out soon one way or another.

How is the number of penalties Baylor had relevant? He hasn't coached there since 2011. However...his squad this year at EIU is another matter. This year they were penalized 136 times for over 1000 yards. The year before that, 104 times for 861 yards. That does not compare well to our total this year of 73 for 633. We did, however have 92 or 775 in 2012...which is comparable. Both teams had more penalties and penalty yards than the opposition, so it's not like we're risking some statistical edge now.

I did fid it interesting that he went into his first meeting ad asked who the starting QB is...when Johnson raised his hand he essentially told him "no you're not...I have no starters right now". So far as the conditioning aspect goes....without knowing what they're doing, it's hard to say. I tend to agree that just because you puked it doesn't mean you had a good or effective workout.

When our football program is referred to as an "Art Briles Copy," their methodologies and what they achieve as a program is relevant and instructive.

Arrogant? The same can be said for Meyer and Saban. When you lead the nation in offense at the FCS level, and the program you came from led the nation in offense at the FBS level, you've earned a degree of latitude to exhibit some confidence about your approach IMO.
