2014-2015 Roster
With the news of Sealey likely redshirting for the year and my guess that Denny will do the same I though it would be interesting to lay out the roster again for what it might look like.
1 Clarke Sr-Tisdale So-Edwards Fr
2 Henderson Sr-Denny Fr
3 Orr Jr
4 Parker Jr-Sealey-Sr-Mayleben Fr
5 Holmes Sr-Gomez Jr
The new coach will have 2 schollies to use over the summer and then 4 next year.

Re: 2014-2015 Roster
Denny's situation gets interesting. In addition to playing less than 30% of the team's games. A player must not play past the midway point in that same season (games, not calandar dates). We have a 32 game season as the conference tournament counts as 1 game in this situation. I am not sure if the Cancun challenge counts as 1 or 4 games, which would take us to a 29 game season if it counted as 1. Denny played in games 15 and 16 of a 32 games season or he played in games 12 and 13 of a 29 game season. Playing in game 16 of a 32 game season is cutting it close, and I do not know if 16 would be considered at or past the half way point. I assuming at, but the NCAA can be sticklers at times.

Sticklers is a nice term for the NCAA. I did not know either rule until today.

Re: 2014-2015 Roster
What I would probably do for a lineup if and when they name me the head coach.
1. JUCO PG-Tisdale SO-Edwards FR
2. Clarke SR-Henderson SR-Denny FR
3. Orr JR-Parker JR
4. Holmes SR-Sealey SR-Mayleben FR
5. JUCO C-Gomez JR
If I was a coach coming in the first thing I would do is try to get a Juco PG who can just run the show. Doesn't need to score, just pass. Then I would get a Juco C who can play a ton of minutes in a Cam Black role. Keeping Holmes off the other teams Center on defense and so he isn't banging as much in the post.

Just my feelings but if and when L. Orr is let go, I think there will be more of a blood-letting of the roster than you show. Chauncey likely would be gone. I see the strong possibility that Gomez and Mayleben will be persuaded to transfer, perhaps Denny as well. The new coach will then have 5 or 6 roster spots to work with and utilize the JUCO route along with any contacts in recruiting from his previous employment. Thus, I expect that the roster will be at least 40% overhauled with a new hire.Globetrotter wrote:With the news of Sealey likely redshirting for the year and my guess that Denny will do the same I though it would be interesting to lay out the roster again for what it might look like.

The challenge would only count as 1 or 2 games. We only played twice - Tuesday against Presbyterian and Wednesday against Oral Roberts.commonsense wrote: I am not sure if the Cancun challenge counts as 1 or 4 games, which would take us to a 29 game season if it counted as 1.

Weren't the Wisconsin and St. Louis games actually part of the Cancun Challenge?transfer2BGSU wrote:The challenge would only count as 1 or 2 games. I have a feeling Orr stays. He won't have a better opportunity elsewhere especially with no redshirt.fredthefalcon wrote:Just my feelings but if and when L. I also get the feeling Denny will stay and we will actually get 4 quality years out of him, he will be a 8th or 9th man fan favorite.
Gomez probably stays 2. A second transfer in a career doesn't make a ton of sense. We will ride him out.
I don't have much hope for Mayleben.
What you are describing is a best case scenario for the program though.

I would also guess that Chauncey stays. Grew up in Bowling Green and would be a starter for the next two years.
Re: 2014-2015 Roster
Keep in mind Chauncey could apply for a waiver from having to redshirt a year if he were to transfer to another Division 1 school. While there are no firm guidelines set that would guarantee the NCAA granting him one, they have set a bit of a precedent of allowing them for players in similar situations. For just one example, Trey Zeigler received one after his father was let go at CMU allowing him to be eligible to play at Pitt right away.

Re: 2014-2015 Roster
Zeigler is now at TCU.
Re: 2014-2015 Roster
The rampant abuse of the waiver/hardship rule is despicable and has basically brought free agency to college basketball.
Re: 2014-2015 Roster
This is sort of along the lines of what I'm thinking. I want Chauncey to return, but I would be surprised if he does return and not surprised at all if he doesn't. Something feels off to me about his possible predicament. Then again, after seven years of Louis Orr basketball, everything feels off to me - even a BG win.brewer wrote:Keep in mind Chauncey could apply for a waiver from having to redshirt a year if he were to transfer to another Division 1 school.
