Complete MAC schedules should be released any day now
Re: Complete MAC schedules should be released any day now
Been there both times BG has played there and both were GREAT trips. Atmosphere in and around the stadium on gameday is one of the best, and it's not a bad drive from BG.

Yes, I was there for the BG game several years ago. Cool stadium, nice campus and Madison is a real fun place to visit.Falcon137 wrote:Has anyone traveled to Camp Randall? I think that's the road trip my group is going to make this year.
GO BG!!!

I'd love to make a repeat trip to Madison and Camp Randall. I was there in 2005, great trip.

The more I think about it, the less I understand why they made Indiana the game for Parent Weekend. Number 1, that's way too early in the semester to be holding that event...its only 3 weeks from the beginning of the term. Number 2, you want to make that game during a week where you don't have a money opponent and you want to get bigger attendance numbers. I just don't see why you'd want this on a week where the game is likely to sell out...you'll have many folks coming in wanting to go to the game that might not be able to, assuming we get a similar turnout like we did the last time we hosted a B1G opponent (2008 Minnesota).
Not really a big deal in the end, but still, that doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me.

What are the alternatives? Put it even earlier against vmi for the first home game of the year or wait until Oct 18th when the weather starts getting pretty unpredictable (and after homecoming). How often do we see true sell outs? The Indiana game is the most logical choice given that schedule.

The first year I was in BG, family weekend was against WMU...it was on October 22. In every year I was on campus except for one homecoming was before family weekend. Only in recent times has it been customary for family weekend to precede homecoming.able1 wrote:What are the alternatives? And I wouldn't agree with the weather usually being bad by mid-October. More often than not the weather for our home games in October is good. Yeah we've had some misses over the years, like Miami 2012 and Massachusetts 2013, but in most of the games I've been to in that month it's blue skies and fairly nice temperatures at the Doyt. November on the other hand is a whole other ballgame. We're usually freezing our butts off by then.

The joys of being the defending MAC champions, we can argue about when the family weekend game should be

Hey...at least we're not talking about losing that game 7 years in a row anymore.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:The joys of being the defending MAC champions, we can argue about when the family weekend game should be

I'm going out on a limb and saying the Indiana game will not be a sell out as I don't see that as the type of "Big Ten" foe that equates to an automatic sellout or frankly that much excitement from the casual fan that is required for NWO/BGSU sellouts.
I also never knew that Parents Day carried with it such a strong contingent of ticket buyers.

Every game should be something. Homecoming, Parents, Senior, Kids/Scouts, Dollar Dog, and Freezing my Butt Off Weeknight game would be my suggestions.
Every game should be marketed to many groups and don't worry if you run out of tickets. It has been my impression in the past that there was a fear that alums or parents might not have available tickets. I would think this would simply get people to buy early before a bad weather forecast was broadcast.

For those attending the BG at UMass game, keep in mind that game will be on UMass's campus in Amherst at McGuirk Stadiim and not at Gillette Stadium again. UMass will be playing three games at both stadiums this season with BG, UB and BSU being played on campus. They are renovating their on-campus stadium and it won't be a sleepy-like atmosphere like it is at Gillette. Very smart move on UMass's part.
Also, keep in mind the BG at OU game will be homecoming for OU, so for those planning on staying before or after the game in a hotel it might be very difficult to do so in Athens.
