People don't know what they are missing. The women's program has had a run of unparalleled success. I graduated in 1980 and have followed BG sports since the late 70's. We have had a few good seasons in football with some bowl wins, a National Championship in Hockey, and some other milestones. However, the Women's program is the only one that has been VERY competitive every year for a 10 year stretch. The style of play is exceptional and the teamwork is something that other programs strive for. Hopefully, people and students will re-engage to the program and start attending more often. Living in Tallahassee, I have not been able to see the team play in person (except for a game against Colorado State a few years back). I watch via ESPN3 or MAC-Sports, follow games on line via Live Stats, or listen to WBGU. When a team is 26-3 with ZERO loses to teams they should beat, it is not something to take for granted. Go Falcons!
Re: Whats with the poor student attendance?
The reason we had great student support for a 5 year period and don't anymore is because the group of students who went to all the home games and cheered graduated! There was never a general student interest in women's basketball outside of a couple big games (Toledo, WNIT). We had a core group of people (mostly band members) who cheered at games. Now that we've all left campus, there isn't a strong student presence at games outside a handful of the Falcon Fanatics who support the women.
