Coach Tony Jasick
Re: Coach Tony Jasick
You may very well be correct, 137, but I would hope that you're not.
There is no excuse to continue paying these coaches at the bottom of the barrel like Orr made. This program has money with Frack's endowment. I realize that we don't have that money yet, but we can certainly count on it and run the program like we do. My biggest fear when that announcement was made was that we'd take that money to maintain the status quo for an extra 15 years and just funnel money that would have normally went to hoops to other sports.
I still say that I hope that's not what we see. That money was gifted in order to see BG Hoops achieve greater things than they have in a long time. Use that money to go find a good head coach. I'm not saying spend a ton on a 7 figure salary guy, but go into with a budget in the 300-500k range and land a GOOD up & comer.

Re: Coach Tony Jasick
You can get a good coach in the $250-300k range. For that much money you can land any, Big East, MWC, WCC or A10 assistant, almost any BCS assistant, and any lower level head coach you really like. And quite frankly, I don't think BG will ever pay the basketball coach more than the football coach, unless he can transform the program into an Akron type program and stays.
Re: Coach Tony Jasick
You're probably right that we won't pay any hoops coach more than Babers. I don't remember seeing the final terms of his contract, but I think Clawson was at $375k so the $300k range would suffice.
I'm fine if it doesn't have to push the half million mark, I just don't want to be shopping the bargain basement Orr type salaries anymore. We have basketball dedicated donations that should prevent us from being tied to a sub $150k salary. Whatever price range would allow us to land up & coming assistants is what we should be looking to set as our budget.
Quite simply, and I think we've proven it here, you're not going to get a winner at the salaries we've been playing.

Woah, I didn't know Orr was sub, $150k. That is SWAC territory.hammb wrote:You're probably right that we won't pay any hoops coach more than Babers. I don't remember seeing the final terms of his contract, but I think Clawson was at $375k so the $300k range would suffice.

Quick search I found an April 11, 2010 article putting Orr's 2-year extension at $160,000 per year compared to $280,000 paid at TSUN.

He was still paid too much for what he provided which was nothing. Getting paid $150,000 for doing s**t is the American dream. Louie got to live it for 7 years!Falcon137 wrote:Woah, I didn't know Orr was sub, $150k. That is SWAC territory.hammb wrote:You're probably right that we won't pay any hoops coach more than Babers. There's an interesting name. He's been bad at Rice (but it's Rice), but, successful at every other stop, including in the MAC.Flipper wrote: Ben Braun[/i]

Nature of the business. I guess we could sign our coaches to a base of say $30,000 with a $10,000 per win being paid. Then how many DIII teams would be playing in the Stroh next year?CrazyFan wrote:He was still paid too much for what he provided which was nothing. $150-160k probably puts him in the 225-275 range of highest paid coach in the country. Which is about where his teams always wound up. You could argue he was paid the right amount.
I just didn't realize that's all he made. That's peanuts for a coach at a major D1 basketball school.

Kowalczyk at Toledo makes $370K base. http://www.ourtownsylvania.com/UT/2013/ ... nsion.htmlFalconTurf wrote:https://www.toledoblade.com/BGSU/2010/0 ... aches.html

The head coach at ND State recently signed a contract extension making $170K.
Re: Coach Tony Jasick
That's my point. At some point you do get what you pay for. We paid crap and got crap. We should be able to afford a similar number to what UT is paying.Falcon137 wrote:CrazyFan wrote:He was still paid too much for what he provided which was nothing. The Blade has Orr's 2012 pay (gross) at $205,296.60.

Re: Coach Tony Jasick
Huh? With our attendance? A winning tSUN attendance averaged 5K over 15 games this season, more than you can put in the Stroh Center. I don't know how they counted as our attendance must have been the actual attendance plus season ticket holders, don't tell me the 1400-1600 published were actual butts in the seats or I'll shake everybody's hand
I agree, you get what you pay for, but what do we do about it? We have pretty high ticket prices for the product. The next ticket agent should consider cutting the ticket prices in HALF to 'bring back the glory'
Oh, that was hockey.
