Glad to see the record of BG Hockey is better than what it has been but as a VERY casual fan I have to think a lot of that is due to the much lower level of competition than we're used to. I'm no hockey expert but the quality of our opponent this weekend didn't look even close to the type of team I was used to see playing against us. I realize that the CCHA dissolved and there was nothing we could do about that, but in this new conference I have to say that anything less than consistent championships is a big time disappointment for this program.

That said I do like the consistent year to year improvement we've seen under Bergeron so I do think another year with all of HIS players is warranted (as I thought it was for Louis Orr several years back). But in this conference? Anything less than a conference championship should be considered falling well below expectations next year.

And I say this as a total casual fan that doesn't watch more than 2-3 games a year. I used to follow the sport pretty closely when I was actually at BG, but it lost my interest with it's continued sucktitude, and it'll take a lot to get it back.
FWIW, this league has 2 nationally ranked teams in it. Ferris State (ranked 6th) and Minnesota State University at Mankato (ranked 18th). Our record against them isn't bad. We played Ferris twice and had a loss and a tie. We played MSU 4 times and split with them 2-2. Of the 4 games, 3 of them went into OT. We also played number 3, Union and had a loss and a tie with them. Not too shabby against ranked opponents, overall.

We fell a little flat in the second half. It's conjecture on my part, but with Mingo declared ineligible and the return of Carpenter to the line up, I think that the line chemistry that had been developed in the first half got screwed up and it took a while for them to gel again.

The Bimidji team that you saw isn't a bad team and they have made it to the NCAA playoffs as recently as 2005. Granted, they are having a down year but they have also knocked off some quality opponents this year. If you want to see us playing a better team, come to the playoff games this weekend. Michigan Tech is a good, fast team and we will have our hands full.

Hockey is a different animal compared to other sports. Many more inconsistencies from shift to shift and game to game. I used to play the sport and coach it so I know how difficult it can be to motivate college-aged kids to play game in and out with high intensity. Bergeron has done enough this year to warrant another year or two, and he's done a good job recruiting players and keeping them around. Expectations around the program are likely too high from casual observers who think its easy to turn around a college hockey program. Junior hockey is still where its at and I'm sure you would agree with me if you ever saw an OHL or QMJHL game. BG has to compete with Miami, Michigan, MSU, Western, OSU, Michigan Tech, LSSU and Northern Michigan for players and all those schools are within 500 or so miles of each other, and sometimes you end up having to settle with a player who is less talented. The program is taking strides, maybe not enough for some people, but its moving in the right direction.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

Hope you guys are right. I'd love to see the program rebound to being prominent nationally again. I hope Bergeron is the one to do it, that's far easier than starting over again.

The O, the Q and the W for that matter have no bearing on NCAA hockey. The NCAA does not allow them to play, because their $250 week paychecks make them "pro". It would be funny as s**t to watch the Whalers come to BG and beat the falcons 18-1 with 16-18 yearolds.
As far as recruiting goes, BG is losing battles to Adrian College. Another school, D3, which would roast the falcons. BG is losing recruiting battles, to schools because those schools are better, and the 16 year old AAA kids BGSU Alumni coaches are telling them BG is a joke. Put the staff in a paper bag. They only find their way out 35% of the time. BG is playing in the weakest conference in D1. The win % stayed the same, which is a decline. The problems are not in the locker room. The problems are with the guys selecting who is in the locker room, and how to play. The staff is not working out. As head coach, Bergeron should be able to see this reality. The solution is to make changes. he will not. He is not a head coach. He is an exceptional assistant, judging by Miami's slide since his departure.
BGSU's AD and president are in a hard place. Bergeron has 3 years left. It would be sad to have pressure him to make the right decisions, and if that has to happen. Pressure to do the right thing and just resign needs to put on him. Bergeron is not a winner. A winner would be winning those tight games. Sure hope the AD and President make moves.

When home ice and getting placed where everyone thought we were supposed to get placed isnt enough for fans...we must fire the coach.

If the old saying "ignorance is bliss" is true, falcon1970 must be the most blissfully happy human being on the planet. The WCHA is "the weakest conference in D1"? Apparently he's never heard of Atlantic Hockey. BG is "losing (recruiting) battles to Adrian College"? Name one player we went after that went there instead.

I can't believe I just wasted five minutes of my life feeding the troll.

Obviously ibleed, Apollo, falcon1970, etc are all the same person with an axe to grind for some strange reason. Possibly a former player who rode the pine or couldn't cut it? I'm adding them all to my ignore list because none of them are worth my time.

This thread should be closed.

I hate feeding the troll but every time I see this line around here I want to scream. THE WIN PERCENTAGE HAS INCREASED EVERY YEAR THIS STAFF HAS BEEN HERE. I just looked at all the results since they've been here again. It hasn't stayed the same, which isn't a decline because it hasn't declined. If we were talking the now former men's basketball coach that line would be true. And before you even counter with we are playing worse teams then in the CCHA, yes I know that, we all know that. All you can do is play the games against the teams you are scheduled against. Has this year been up and down and some of the results frustrating, yes. Still doesn't change the fact that the record and win percentage have increased every year

Much better....I can no longer see their posts! They're all the same people, you can tell by the grammar and writing style. I can't make them go away, but I can ignore them.

How dare you come into this thread on page 9 and introduce verifiable facts? Don't you realize this is the internets?

There is no place for this sort of thing here.
