Assistant for Mississippi State, was at Evansville and Army.
Re: Coach Tony Jasick
This article from 2010 lists his annual salary at $160k, it was published after his extension. It jives with info I found that said his original starting salary was also $160kpoltergeist wrote:where do you get that from?hammb wrote:We have basketball dedicated donations that should prevent us from being tied to a sub $150k salary. Whatever price range would allow us to land up & coming assistants is what we should be looking to set as our budget.
Quite simply, and I think we've proven it here, you're not going to get a winner at the salaries we've been playing.
The Blade has Orr's 2012 pay (gross) at $205,296.60.

Maybe he was paid higher for the final two years that were the extension? I'm not sure. Either way it appears that as recently as 2010 that was what he was being paid. I also found an article from last year when it was announced that Orr would return. That article mentioned that our entire basketball expenses were the lowest in the conference...despite the fact that we recently received the largest gift in Mac history to be dedicated to basketball. That is what I mean by the dept not properly supporting the program.
You get what you pay for.

I think I heard it mentioned that you have to have a Master's degree or better to be employed at BG. Not sure if it's true for coaches. Stacey is sort of unproven, but wait, Fran Voll was a HS coach. After Orr, not a bad choice for Stace.

yes, the Blade is sure that he was paid considerably more in 2012 than in 2010. 200,000+.hammb wrote:Maybe he was paid higher for the final two years that were the extension? I'm not sure. Either way it appears that as recently as 2010 that was what he was being paid.
safe to say the raise wasn't performance-based, lol. ouch.

No to Stacey...we need to hire a proven Division 1 college coach with an established recruiting network. After 10 years of futility under Dakich 2.0 and Orr, we can't afford to roll the dice like that.

Re: Coach Tony Jasick
Exactly. If this was like football, where we just won the conference and the coach left for a better job I would be more willing to take that risk. This program is an absolute train wreck right now, and needs to be rebuilt bu someone who has coached college ball at the D1 level. I would love to see Stacy hired as an assistant, then maybe take over as head coach after the new coach has (hopefully) resurrected this program and gone to a bigger name job.Flipper wrote:No to Stacey...we need to hire a proven Division 1 college coach with an established recruiting network. I don't think it applies to coaches. I know Coach Roos doesn't have a Masters degree. Not sure about any of the other coaches. Coaches are hired on their coaching credentials mostly. Where they have coached and how successful they have been.
