Re: BGSU vs BSU
For what it's worth, the 1 and 2 seeds (Akron and Ohio) both won their semifinal games on the men's side last year. The 3 and 4 seeds (WMU and Kent) also won their quarterfinal games off the bye.

This. I've never liked the tournament winners getting the automatic bids after teams have slogged through several months to win a regular season crown. Way too often you see a team get hot for three or four games, and the regular season champ goes down.Flipper wrote:BSU played a near perfect game we most certainly didn't....we desrve an at large bid. If we don't get it, the folly of conferences like the MAC having tournaments to decide the title will be apparent once again.
In the bigger conferences it's usually not a big deal. The regular season champion is pretty much guaranteed an NCAA berth. But in a mid level conference like the MAC, it's a real killer.
So here we go again...a team that played lights out for several months and won the regular season MAC title will end up playing in a rinky dink tournament instead of where they should be: the NCAA.
They really should do away with the tournament; it ends up hurting the conference when its best team gets ousted and doesn't end up getting an NCAA bid. Let the "big boys and girls" leagues play their tourneys -- there's no reason for the smaller leagues to do this...unless they want to say the automatic bid goes to the regular season champ, regardless, and the extra games are just to keep folks sharp, and maybe allow a team to get some extra wins at the end to qualify for an at-large bid (unlikely) or a bid to one of the other post-season tourneys (more likely).

Re: BGSU vs BSU
Its so weird that the last three years the top two women's seeds have had zero advantage with the triple bye while it has had basically no effect on the men's top two seeds. The triple bye started in 2012 for both and the men's top two seeds are 5-1 in the semis while the ladies top two seeds are either 1-5 or 0-6 (don't remember how the women's two seed did in 2012). I know the earlier start times were mentioned earlier, maybe for the women's teams that have been the two top seeds its been a combo of the early start times plus the long layoffZoombaFalcon wrote:For what it's worth again, the top 2 seeds on the men's side won yesterday....

Maybe the gap between and the rest of the field at the top of the men's division is larger...maybe the women's game is based more on accurate shooting which would give the team that's played on the floor an edge...maybe men and women are just..different.
I've based much of my adult life on that last premise....

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
