NIT bound
NIT bound
BG not selected for the NCAA Tournament. Will know our NIT opponent late this evening. Hopefully at least a home game.
BG was overlooked for the following teams.
Seriously??? Oklahoma in at 18-14. RPI of 59!!!! What the heck. BG RPI is 31 Florida State at 20-11. Also, Vanderbilt at 18-12
No respect for the MAC. Time to win the NIT.

Re: NIT bound
Is the NCAA influenced at all by this Charlie Creme guy from ESPN. Last year he was 63/64. This year he got all 64 teams right, including what he thought was the bubble teams. Come on, Oklahoma and Florida State do not have better resumes than BG yet they are in the field of 64. Maybe ESPN and other outlets shouldn't do projections as it may sway the committee

I'm rapidly losing interest in both the men's and women's tournament. The selection process is tilted towards "power" conferences at the expense of everyone else...what used to be one of my favorite events in sports has become a joke.

Re: NIT bound
ESPN just showed a graphic that BG was the first team out as determined by the selection committee. Great!

BG was the 1st team out. BG better get the #1 seed in the NIT and every game better be home.

In case you wondered, I asked a question in the ESPN chat.
Jeremy (Bowling Green, OH)
Bowling Green is out, but teams like Oklahoma and Florida State are in? How does that work out?
Charlie Creme

Oklahoma and Florida State proved they could be tournament level competition. Bowling Green didn't. Losing by 17 in the semis of the MAC tournament is something that can't happen.

Hey a$$hole Charlie. The committee us suppose to look at the ENTIRE body of work not just one game. Just admit it. The power conference runs the tournament

I completely agree. Amazing how one game can define your entire season for a mid-major (as long as it's a negative definition), but a power conference team can have its entire resume looked at.

Re: NIT bound
It has become clear that the NCAA simply will not acknowledge that the MAC is home to quality women's basketball. We have long known that the NCAA is a corrupt organization that protects the financial interests of the "power conferences" and its own cash flow. Now we know that this rot has spread from football and men's basketball and into the women's game. I've watched FSU's team play this year. They are mediocre. I believe that we could go 32-1, with a single loss and still be left out of the tournament. Pathetic.

Kendall Williams (Portland Or)
Don't forget that BG has an RPI of 31 and was still ranked by AP at #29 after the loss to BSU (let's not forget that a major reason why BG lost to BSU is that their bus got stuck for over 5 hrs on the turnpike in the multi-fatality snowstorm chain collision on their way to Cleveland and only got 30 mins of practice time). In comparison RPIs for Oklahoma (57), Florida (64), Vandy (44), UGA (43), FSU (38). Creme mocks BG's loss in the semis to BSU yet no problem that UGA once again got blown out in SEC quarters by 19 and Vandy never made it past UGA!

No argument here, except to say that knowing Charlie, he didn't mock anything. He doesn't have an agenda with any of this, he's just trying to come up with the best estimation of what the committee thinks/will do. But on the merits of the case, I agree with you. Bowling Green should be in.

Can someone please explain to me how a team with votes in the Top 25 poll can't get into a field of 64 teams?

Just sent a question to Charlie, but maybe you can answer it Graham. Why does a mediocre major deserve a spot over a ranked, very dominant mid major? Talking about Oklahoma and Bowling Green?

I was disappointed that Bowling Green didn't get in. I don't think it's good for the sport when a program that tries to schedule well out of conference and does everything it's supposed to in conference gets passed over. That said, I think the MAC deserves as much blame as the selectin committee. If the MAC wants to send its best representative to the NCAA tournament, don't tie the automatic bid to one game in a tournament as opposed to two-plus months of a regular season.

I posted this in the BSU game thread, but I'll put it here since it's more appropriate.
It's time for the MAC to get smart and do away with the automatic bid going to the tournament winner. The regular season champions in men's and women's basketball should ALWAYS get the NCAA bid.
Always.
Because if they get upset, the odds of getting an at-large bid are almost nil. So why let your best team sit home nearly half the time, and watch as a lesser team most likely loses in the first round, or at least has a much less chance of pulling an upset?
If they want to still hold the tournament so that teams can stay fresh and battle for a trophy, and to give other teams a chance to pad their win totals in hopes of getting one of the other tournament bids...fine.
But stop fooling yourself that you are on a level playing field and can have a tournament and just give away that automatic bid when the team that slogged its way through several months of hard work to get the regular season championship is left out.
I know I'm probably pissing in the wind here, because common sense will most likely never rule the day when it comes to making decisions by the folks at the MAC office.

Re: NIT bound
Extremely disappointed for BGSU women. A quality group of women and tremendous coaching staff. However, why are people mad at Charlie Crème? He did not "mock" BGSU because of the semi final loss. Someone called him an a$$hole?? Seriously, get some perspective. I know Charlie extremely well. He's a quality guy and he does this for the love of the game and makes pretty much nothing for doing it. So sad to read this thread.
