Okay, I live in Columbus and follow OSU pretty closely. First, there has been NOTHING about Thad leaving because of his back; in fact, things seem to have stabilized for him on that front. His problem stems from a surgery that didn't work, not a degenerative condition.

Second, the lack of development of the junior class here is hardly a reflection of one coach and more likely a reflection of a series of recruiting misses -- combined with the fact that the people who were scorers in that class (Thomas and Sullinger) both left early. The class includes two high school All Americans, Amir Williams and Scott, and there's no accounting for the lack of development offensively for either player. We do know that the class of centers of which Amir was a part of was very weak, and it has continued to be that way.

Boals is an excellent coach, especially of big men (look at who else he has coached at OSU, including Sullinger) and an excellent recruiter. BG would be very lucky to get him as a coach. Even if Matta DID leave early (not happening), I would think Boals might be on a short list to replace him, but I'd say it would be more likely that OSU would go after someone who has been a head coach for a while (think Miller at Arizona) as opposed to someone with just a year or two under their belts.

Hope that clears things up. There is no reason for BG fans not to want Boals as a candidate for this job. None. He would likely be an excellent head coach.

Thanks for the list Globe.
Few quick thoughts:
I like the up and comers. If we hired Jordan, Fife, or Pasternack I would be thrilled.
I am skeptical of Ben Braun but would be willing to consider him. He had a lot of success at EMU but that was a long time ago.
I'm not sold on Zach Spiker yet but he could be very good. His best season so far was 18-16 last year which got him conference coach of the year. Winning at Army is very different from winning at Bowling Green on so many levels so it is hard to evaluate him.
Neubauer needs a new picture.

Just a guess here, but I would imagine Kingston could be using the NCAA Tournament as a platform to meet/interview/gather info for candidates. From what I gather, I believe there is a coaches convention each year at the Final Four or something along those lines. I would venture to guess it's common practice to target and meet with coaches or to pick their mind about their assistants, etc., during this time.

Right on 33. He probably has a short list but if he meets anyone there that blows him away then great. I bet some of his shirt list are assistants on teams in the tournament. At least Boals is done for the season now.

Spiker benefits from the Army prep school as well as "unlimited" scholarships. I did a broadcast of an Army game this season and they dressed 18 and played most of them.

Kingston's not battling against a recruiting timeline, but is battling against other mid-majors who want the people we want. He's also battling against those who are labeling this a "tough" job in the coaching community just because they don't want BG getting anybody good.

Mock headlines if certain people are hired:

I'm watching Michigan thrashing Texas close to the end of the first half. I want Lavall Jordan as our head coach ... the second M's season is over. The discipline, energy, and game planning I am seeing is unbelievable and is so needed around our program. I believe Jordan works specifically with the guards and those guys are playing with so much energy right now. He could do wonders for BGSU basketball.

Hire him ... quickly ... and I'll be one happy man.
