The next jump shot Gomez hits from anywhere on the floor will be his first.

Agreed. I think we are a point guard away from competing next year. I think there is a capable shooting guard already on the roster and while I thought it would be Clarke I actually think it's probably Henderson. Regardless I think we have two veteran guards for a rotation. Then Parker and Holmes at forward. At the very least we need a big at five to keep Holmes from having to bang. Gomez isn't special but he can play that role for part time atleast. I'd like to see them go the juco route and get another big and do the same at pg. Owens has a stretch 4-5 that's still unsigned that would be nice. Lakeland has a pg that seems unsigned as well.

I have said for a while that our guards are talented, but they need good coaching to develop them into great shooters. Clarke and Henderson, meet Coach Jans.

Wichita State assistants

Greg Helar coached under and played for Jans

Former buckeye Devon Smith would make a lot of sense. Coached at Oakland as well.

I'm excited...hard to argue with Wichita State's recent success and his resume is pretty solid. Time, of course, will tell but it looks great on paper. Welcome to the Nest Coach Jans!

Globe, I beleive we have 4 scholarships available and is very likely we could have up to 6. The two we did not use, our two seniors, Chauncey Orr, and you can be nearly certain Lyshe scholarship would be revoked with a new staff. Honestly Jans could come in and get rid of another player or two as well. You could be looking at 8 available scholarships. I am so excited about this hire. He is the perfect guy for what we are in right now. I can almost guarantee we will be looking at 3 JUCO players coming in with his Junior College ties and wouldn't be surprised if Gill from Owens is one of them. Could not be more ecstatic with this hire. Wins are on the horizon!!! AND I have faith it may be sooner rather than later if we get the right JUCO availabes and I am sure he has such a deep recruiting list at Wichita we could be bring in some QUALITY freshman. This hire just gave us national recognition. WHAT A HIRE!!!!

Way to Chris Kingston!

I'm as excited by this hire as any we have had at BG since I came to school in 1985! I was excited about Larranaga too, and he was obviously so-so at BG, but this just feels right. Time will tell, but love the quotes from Witchita State head coach and classy quote from Dakich!

I think the Babers hire was an excellent one too, how many AD's get to put their stamp on athletics like this? If he got 'em both right, and he just might have, Kingston won't be around long, so I hope he's not!

Been nearly a decade since I was excited about Men's Hoops! Go BG!!

Yep, But a Wichita State assistant listed above was the head coach there after him and I would assume there is still a relationship. I think Chipola is a perennial powerhouse in the Juco area.

I don't think Lyshe was on scholarship this year. We only know of 3 available. I am not going to assume that Chauncey leaves, I don't think it's in his best interest or ours to be honest and I think despite the awkwardness it may work it's way out.

Oh you can tell everybody, Oh you can tell everybody, Go ahead and tell everybody, WE GOT JANS WE GOT JANS WE GOT JANS

This is an Urban Meyer-type of hire. This is a grand slam, a 99 yard touchdown, a buzzer beating three-pointer and just about any other sporting analogy you can think of.

Jans has everything you could want in a coaching prospect and then some. A sizable role in historic levels of winning. A reputation as a master teacher, recruiter, motivator and developer of players. A well-earned reputation as one of the top assistant coaches in college basketball. A fine-tuned understanding of what it takes to build a top tier program outside of the BCS structure. A dynamic, engaging presence on social media that will undoubtedly connect with the fan base. Substantial head coaching experience so calling time-outs, running plays and giving speeches won't be brand new. First-hand knowledge as the right-hand man of Gregg Marshall, the hottest coaching name in college basketball.

There will be a line to Cleveland of aspiring young coaches who will want to join this staff and be a part of this. He has a recognizable brand that will bring instant credibility on the recruiting trail.

This solidifies Kingston as one of the best (if not the best) young athletic directors in the country. It is now incumbent upon the Bowling Green community to join the Falcon Club, buy tickets, pack the Stroh and support the development of the program.
