Chris Jans - New Head Coach

I somewhat agree. Just better decision makers in general. Clarke & Henderson are an improvement over the guards from a couple years ago. But too many mistakes, which I think and hope can be corrected.

Worth every penny times 10.
Kingston's comments are like catnip for us fans:
"Chris Jans is doing the things that we want to do at BGSU. He is a championship coach, a championship recruiter, and a championship person. He is absolutely the right fit for Falcon men’s basketball. He has the coaching expertise and personality to immediately ignite the players and fan base, as we begin the new era of men’s basketball in the Stroh Center under his leadership.’’
It's tempting to draw parallels to the Curt Miller hire, but the Colorado State women's program didn't win 34 games in a row the year after a Final Four bid and he didn't already have head coaching experience.

I believe I heard or read this season that Lyshe was on scholarship. I could not confirm that anywhere though. Maybe John Wagner tweeted it. I forget where the information came from.Globetrotter wrote:I don't think Lyshe was on scholarship this year. We only know of 3 available. I am not going to assume that Chauncey leaves, I don't think it's in his best interest or ours to be honest and I think despite the awkwardness it may work it's way out.BGfalcon2010 wrote:Globe, I beleive we have 4 scholarships available and is very likely we could have up to 6. The two we did not use, our two seniors, Chauncey Orr, and you can be nearly certain Lyshe scholarship would be revoked with a new staff. Honestly Jans could come in and get rid of another player or two as well. You could be looking at 8 available scholarships. I am so excited about this hire. He is the perfect guy for what we are in right now. I can almost guarantee we will be looking at 3 JUCO players coming in with his Junior College ties and wouldn't be surprised if Gill from Owens is one of them. Could not be more ecstatic with this hire. Wins are on the horizon!!! AND I have faith it may be sooner rather than later if we get the right JUCO availabes and I am sure he has such a deep recruiting list at Wichita we could be bring in some QUALITY freshman. This hire just gave us national recognition. WHAT A HIRE!!!!
Re: Chris Jans - New Head Coach
So it costs about $125k to go from middling boredom of a head coach to one of the young hot up & coming assistants from one of the best "mid-major" programs in the country? Money well spent, if you ask me.
I am so freaking pumped about this hire. He is the hands down home run of a hire that we could have hoped for. He's young, he's got experience as a head guy, he's got experience in a top flight mid-major D1 program, he's got tons of Juco connections. He's active on social media and seems to be the type of personality that I've always said we need at BG in our coaches.
Seriously there is nothing that I'd look for in a BG head coach candidate that Jans doesn't have. And I'm sooo happy to see that we're paying him an amount that puts him in line with the top tier coaches in the MAC. We should be able and willing to pay this amount, and as we can see now when we open it up to this level we can get THE guy that we all want.
So freaking pumped for BG hoops (and football too, for that matter).

I see he spent a little time at Chipola JC. We had a player from down there in Ryan Hamblet several years ago.
GO BG!!!

Geeze, I'm so excited I'm going to have to go to the presser at noon Tuesday!
The rumor mill nailed this a week or so ago and I'm looking forward to the NEW attitude in Falconland.
Go BG!

Excellent hire. If anything, Mr. Kingston has shown to be no nonsense and obviously wants to improve things as quickly as possible for BGSU men's basketball. Jans fits everything the program needs and I think his coaching style will lend a huge hand in growing not only talent but also good young men off the court. What you're feeling this morning is the first breath of fresh air into extremely stagnant air.

Great hire. I expect immediate improvements from the players we already have and he will be able to get much better players to put around them. This is the hire the basketball program desperately needed.

Coach was sporting a orange tie on the sidelines during the Kentucky game.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I don't want to give him too much credit but if he really thought about that it's a level of attention to detail we have not seen here in a long time.mscarn wrote:Coach was sporting a orange tie on the sidelines during the Kentucky game.

Re: Chris Jans - New Head Coach
Now that this silly coaching thing is out of the way, why do we all assemble to sing the Alma Mater after games and, why can't we go onto the court at the Stroh Center like we did at AA? I hope the new coach does away with some of the Orr traditions, makes the mens players more accessible after the game, and, while we're at it, let's cut the ticket prices and concessions to FILL THE HOUSE.

Meh, I don't know about this Jans character. Seems kinda fishy how he looks so much like Joe Pesci....
