In other helmet news, Riddell has come out with a new SpeedFlex helmet for this year. I love Riddell's design over Schutt but have to say the top/front almost looks like a puzzle piece. But they are supposed to be the latest design in preventing concussions so I'm sure we'll start to see a lot of them start popping up on the field. I still prefer to look of the Riddell Speed Revolution design much better. This link shows some images for the new Speedflex for a few schools:

Not the best use of chrome. It looks like they pulled old trophies from the 1980's off the shelf and made a helmet out of them.

I was fortunate to take a tour of the Riddell factory in Elyria this past winter. The amount of $ that is spent on helmets is amazing. Chrome helmets like Akron's are good for 1 game only. After that they need to be re-painted. some of Oregon's helmets run $1800 each!

I would guess these would't be for every game, but more of an alternate uniform.

I took a tour of Riddell last year as well. Very impressive and what a production they have going on there! I couldn't believe all the employees, sectional departments and production stages they had there.

I've always thought Akron has had a cool logo- the one with the kangaroo head in front of the A. The Z is just too bland and boring, just like the plain interlocking BG helmets we've in the last decade. Whoever is designing these could do a much better job.
