So I've been doing some research

Post by Critical Thinker »

Some stat nerd on the USCHO boards is keeping a spreadsheet with every team's schedule. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... 4N3c#gid=0 While we don't have our schedule released yet, we do know a decent chunk of it, based off of the other schools releasing theirs.

But here's what's interesting. Of our 9 home games we have scheduled so far, a grand total of 2 games are scheduled when the students are here. That's it. Our home series against Ferris, when we really need a big turnout, is over Thanksgiving. Even our one non-conference game against Miami still wound up on Fall Break. The WCHA didn't even schedule that one, and we put it on the one weekend in October no one would show up. I realize this isn't our entire schedule, but this is ridiculous. Why doesn't the WCHA coordinate games with the school's academic calendar? Seriously, can't they make Thanksgiving a bye week and move the series to February? It's not good for anybody when teams play in an empty rink, wouldn't the WCHA want to make the games as watched as possible?

 Ferris State's schedule was wrong on the spread sheet, my bad. Everything else was right.

I don't know the academic calendar. Now that the full schedule is out how does it address your concerns, CT?
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

according to my info, breaks coincide with the Miami game (Fall break, Oct. 9-10), the RMU game, and the Alaska series (spring semester starts on Jan. 12).
Four games.
No games over Thanksgiving (Nov. 26-28) or Spring Break (March 9-13. but yeah, many students will bail early).
Only open weekend when the students are here is Dec. 12-13.

Actually, the schedule above has the dates for the WCHA first round incorrect. Should be March 13, 14, and 15. If we host a first round again, it will be at the end of Spring Break.
