Finally got the story to load..."hand to hand transaction" "The marijuana and $30 were seized". WTF? They busted him on a $30 drug deal? In Ann Arbor they call that "Saturday Night".

He just significantly set himself and whatever career he wants back, maybe even by years. No matter who your employer is and no matter what the charge is, explaining an arrest in an interview with a potential employer is a rough hurdle to overcome. On top of that this week is finals week and he is in jail. He may have also significantly hurt his standing with the university and may not be able to graduate for a while. I sincerely hope he displays better judgment in the future.

We need to take a long, hard look at the drug laws in this country. Is worth the man hours for the cops, prosecutors, court etc... to pursue this kind of thing? $30 and a handful of grass and now the young man in question is in the criminal justice system, his future soemwhat clouded by this indescretion. Should he know better? Sure...but is this really what we want?

I bet he still gets signed as a rookie free agent. Hopefully selling $30 of weed doesn't end his dream of playing in the NFL.

Flips point is a valid one. Do the Seahawks and Broncos look at this differently than the Colts and Bengals? Jerome Bettis said 75% of the league smokes marijuana, heck Pete Carroll stumped for it at the Super Bowl.

Its always interesting to see how guys behave once they're outside the comfort and protection of something like a 100-man football team. Terrible decision by BooBoo, and while I firmly believe its quite a minor offense, it simply doesn't display good common sense. However, if Aldon Smith can make a bomb threat in an airport and get his contract option picked up, then BooBoo can still make an NFL roster.

Sorry flip, but I think you're all wet on this...I know...I'm the " old guy" in this group but I'm currently in COLORADO of all places. There were brochures at the car rental counter re: the purchase and use of pot etc. if you think that selling the stuff for $30 is no big deal it's YOUR opinion, but if I had even an outside chance of being drafted by the NFL, I'd sure as HELL want to keep a positive image and clean reputation. I think that's why teams look at character as well as talent!

You realize that selling $30 worth of weed is pretty much the same thing as selling no weed? I firmly believe Marijuana should be legalized nationally. It's effing stupid that it's illegal through most of the states...especially considering the tax revenue that can be gained from it (see Colorado).

I also don't see selling $30 of weed as a big deal. It's not Drug Trafficking in any sense of the word. It's more like, "Dude do you have any bud?" "Sure here's $30 worth man." At that volume it is FAR from a guy trying to make a living by selling illegal drugs. It is a lot more likely that he's just helping out a buddy and got caught. Couldn't care less.

All that being said, I think this takes BooBoo'ss shots of being drafted to less than zero, and his likelihood of even getting a UDFA deal has gone down as well. The NFL doesn't care about character if you can play, but he wasn't exactly looking at a high round draft pick prior to this. What it does is take a guy from the MAC, with questionable athleticism, and adds another CON to his prospect report as a character issue. Sure Aldon Smith can do whatever the hell he wants because he's a beast on the field, the same cannot be said for marginal prospects in the week of the draft.

I hope BooBoo gets off with minimal penalty for this minimal crime. Unfortunately, I think this likely cost him his shot at the NFL.

First of all, I apologize a s I hit the wrong smiley....but you obviosly don't know me very well. Most who do will tell you I don't "pound a few - or any- brews at tailgate. I know you guys look at the whole pot thing differently than I do, and I DON'T know that $30 worth is nothing. But we come from a different time frame so I guess I'll still think this is a dumb thing to do, especially at this time.
