Roster updates

Post by Siborg »

They posted some updates to the roster recently. Some freshman getting number assignemnts but I also noticed Justin Ford was no longer listed. I thought he did a nice job filling in for Gabe Martin last year. We'll need some young guys to step up to provide some depth. Lynch, Martin and maybe Paul Senn or maybe Coy Brown will likely be starters.

Other subtractions were Jason Shepard, D-line and Marcus Milton incomming freshman. Andrew Luck was also supposed to be a PW on the O-line but he is also missing from the roster.

Also saw Shannon Smith back on the roster at #93 (greyshirt?), same number as Corey Madlock....both on D-line.

I'm never certain if the roster is accurate or not this time of year.

Also a lot of desirable numbers left so I suspect a lot of older players will change jersey numbers.

Marcus Levy and Jared Cohen are missing from the roster. Levy was supposed to be very talented.

Not much reason to freak out, likely typical roster turnover that every school endures. Some guys either don't come back to school due to grades or personal matters or perhaps they feel their place on the depth chart isn't good enough for them and leave the program. Still plenty of depth at the important positions.

I am most disappointed in not seeing Levy listed. I also heard good things about Pierre-Louis and Harrell. And we all know Cohen and Ford could play.

It does make you wonder if these players are no longer with BG because they didn't feel like they fit into the new coaching schemes; or whether the coaches "encouraged" them to look elsewhere because of the same reason.

Neither scenario is unusual when you have a new coaching staff. And I would guess having a fairly loaded roster of returning players from a championship team might also play into the thinking of both players and coaches.

FYI....I would like to thank everyone for the entertainment the past four years. To end a little speculation, my son Justin Ford was forced to retire due to concussions. He was really looking forward to his senior year but health and a degree are what matters the most, He will be graduating in December to become a youth probation officer. He really has enjoyed his time at BG as did my whole family. Coach Clawson sat in my living room and promised two things...A degree and a ring. BG fan forever, Randy Ford.

Sorry to hear that Randy, but Justin's health is obviously the biggest priority for his life. I wish him the best in his future endeavors and I think I speak for everyone here in congratulating him on a great season last year and a prosperous future.

Sorry to hear that Justin won't be back due to health reasons....he stepped in at a key position and played really well last year...that says a lot about the confidence the coaches had in him and the work he put in staying prepared. Glad to hear he's getting his degree and hope he doesn't suffer any long term issues from his concussion.

Randy:
Both jpfalcon09 and Flipper said just what I was thinking when I read your post! I wish him all the best and give him BIG props for his future job! Definitely not an easy job to do, but hopefully, BG has him well prepared. I work with several students who are on probation and a really good youth probation officer can turn a kid around!!

Best of luck to Justin and thank you, Randy for sharing that personal information!!

GO FALCONS!!!!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
