Re: Roster updates
Gallon is done for the year with another ACL injury so I'm curious who will take his spot on the depth chart.

Re: Roster updates
My guess is either Dieter or Lewis will take over or fill his spot. And if the spring game was any indication of their ability to contribute, Gallon may have lost his spot to one or both of these guys if he was healthy anyway. Yes, I know it was just a spring game, but both looked like studs. Further, aside from the Kent State game two years ago, Gallon has sometimes disappeared on the field and that's hard to image being the physical presence he is out there. You see Gallon and wonder how he didn't play more like that more often. Gallon to me reminded me of Otis Polk in basketball, I always wondered how he wasn't more a factor and felt he woulda/coulda/shoulda dominated his MAC counterparts but didn't. But I am disappointed Gallon's out - again - and do hope he can return next year and become the beast we have seen him be (vs KSU).jpfalcon09 wrote:Gallon is done for the year with another ACL injury so I'm curious who will take his spot on the depth chart.

Re: Roster updates
Just looking at this roster and the grade level status of our D in particular, it's no wonder that the vast majority of the new verbals are on that side of the ball....we stand to lose at least 3/4 of our starting D by the end of the yr.

On the positive side. A coach that is known for his offense has a great veteran defense that he doesn't have to do much with his first year.Class of 61 wrote:Just looking at this roster and the grade level status of our D in particular, it's no wonder that the vast majority of the new verbals are on that side of the ball....we stand to lose at least 3/4 of our starting D by the end of the yr.

Anyone know if he will get a medical redshirt? Or is he even eligible for a medical redshirt? since he is already a R-Jr...jpfalcon09 wrote:Gallon is done for the year with another ACL injury so I'm curious who will take his spot on the depth chart.

Re: Roster updates
Add up the scholarships and I think we will have a full 25+ to give for 2015.
Re: Roster updates
That's the big question. We've heard next to nothing about the defense beyond generalities while Jimmy Garoppolo's 2013 statistics have been burned into the brain. Players have said the standards will be maintained and Babers has said "Falcon Fast" applies equally to the defense with more blitizing and takeaways but what exactly does that amount to? A scheme change? Alignment and front changes? Man or zone coverage? Different terminology?Globetrotter wrote: A coach that is known for his offense has a great veteran defense that he doesn't have to do much with his first year.

Re: Roster updates
I imagine not much will ultimately change with the scheme, just perhaps our aggressiveness and amount of blitzing. Elko built a reputation on pressuring during 1st and 2nd downs and forcing 3rd and long passing situations, we'll see if that carries over. The one thing I hope that improves is turnovers generated.mscarn wrote:That's the big question. Re: Roster updates
Elko was extremely creative with those blitz packages. Babers seems to want turnovers to give the ball back to the offense but I was OK with simply stopping the other team.jpfalcon09 wrote:

It's a shift in philosophy and a program-wide upheaval not seen in the league since CMU handed the keys to their championship team to Dan Enos in 2009. One big difference that will hopefully redound to our benefit is that he wanted to slow them down on offense while Babers wants to speed us up.
Re: Roster updates
Couple names from the past back on the roster, both as juniors.
Dernard Turner DB #18 Recruited a couple years ago
Trenton Greene LB #20 brother of Travis, IIRC
Few others added as well, all freshman
Korey Stills WR #83
Vito Sosic TE #86
Marcus Boomer DB #37
David Konowalski DE #94

Re: Roster updates
Getting Turner back is great...
I noticed that they moved Colvin to DE....with Minns, Royster, Lunsford, Jackson, Smith and Madlock on hand, perhaps they feel comfortable enough at DT to add some size to the strongside DE spot.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Roster updates
Another LB is gone as Coy Brown has also left the team. I thought he very well could have figured in at some point.
GO BG!!!
