Babers' challenge for this year's team

Post by BGSU33 »

We all know Babers has been handed the keys to a MAC Championship team that is picked to win the MAC again this season. And while I have a few concerns about some of the changes we're trying to make for the upcoming season, I really liked one of the things Babers said to challenge this year's team. And that was - to go back out there and do it again this year - to win another MAC Championship. He talked about teams that win championships but went on to talk about how difficult it is for those teams to follow it up with another title in the following season, to go back out there and prove it all over again. I think that is a great motivational tool, challenge and goal for this year's team to have this season.

We've got a bull's eye on our backs now this year. We're going to get everyone's best shot each week and we haven't been in this position in over 20 years. It'll be interesting to see if we can we defend our title and back it up this season again.
GO BG!!!

I like what he said about last year. That Dave built a great program, but they also lost 4 games, which means they have a lot of room for improvement. The next time after winning a conference championship is to shoot for bigger, loftier goals. Not only should a MAC Championship be on their minds, but also defeating Toledo, Indiana and Wisconsin and getting a chance to go to the access bowl.

Of the 4 losses one was by a single point and 2 were by a field goal. All of those were winnable and an extra edge is exactly what's needed, especially on offense. I fear the physicality of Wisconsin's offensive line will be overwhelming a la Pitt in the bowl game but every other game can be a W.

We gave up 15 ppg on defense last year and scored 34. Eastern Illinois, Baylor and Oregon all gave up around 23 ppg on defense but scored in the upper forties/low fifties. One extra TD allowed on defense in exchange for 2-3 additional touchdowns on offense is a worthy trade off if it can be achieved.

I agree. Coach Babers gave lots of credit to Coach Clawson but we all know it can be even better...and I think this team will be a juggernaut.

As far as Wisky...yes, their O line and power running game will be a physical challenge but they only return 3 starters on D. Their secondary is gonna be very suspect and we *should* be able to move the ball and put up points on them. I am getting ahead of myself...We have three games before Wisky.

Wisconsin lost 4 starters on O-line.. so our D needs to terrorize them (a la Martin, Lynch & the gang).. They will have a nice 1-2 combo though at RB with Gordon & Clement. (We need to plug up the run).

Their D should be suspect, lost all 4 LB's (definitely a rebuilding year of sorts on that side of the ball)

we CAN win
