Yes, it was a good rivalry. But as a long time MAC fan, I miss playing the traditional rivals like Miami, Ohio U and Kent State ever year.huskiealum03 wrote:I'm sad that BG is leaving the west. It was a good developing rivalry, both for fans and for ESPN. Now, back to the bad, boring matchups.....
I hope we still get to play NIU on a semi-regular basis.

This is kind of dissapointing. I really wanted to beat up on Toledo and NIU at home this year, and really feel like we accomplished something. Moving back to the East will give us some good rivalries, and I won't mind beating the snot out of Miami, but still, NIU was getting to be a good rivalry. Oh well, I'm sure we'll see Toledo in Detroit next year then.

To drag the carcass of the marketing horse back out, I hope they take advantage of this move to the east to begin/expand advertising in Northeast Ohio. They've done it in Columbus, and with the vast alumni base in the Cleveland area, not only would it be huge to strive to make the Kent and maybe Akron game like home games, but get that fan base excited enough to make a trip back to the Doyt for a game (though it might have the opposite effect, now that they know they can see BG in the northeast if they want to at least once a year close to home, they might use that as an excuse not to make the roadie.
The move back to the East and rejoining rivalries with the four other Ohio schools would also be a good opportunity to reach out to potential students in these areas, with in-state tuition rates, as opposed to the West, where all but one of our regularly scheduled (i.e. divisional) road games were out of state.
I don't know how bold it would be to put a couple billboards up around Kent/Akron/Oxford or Athens announcing BG coming to town in all brown and orange, but it couldn't hurt, right?
