More Trouble Ahead for the G5?

Post by jpfalcon09 »

ESPN released a poll taken by P5 coaches and 65% support scheduling only games with other P5 schools. Seems like the days are approaching where the G5 will likely be excluded from the FBS table and will either have to form their own football division or drop to the FCS level. It was nice to see Clawson and Urban vote no on this proposal.

Those same P5 coaches will have to accept playing away from home more often and being able to absorb more losses.

I'd love to see a vote to stop playing FCS teams or at least call them what they are...scrimmages. To compensate those same FCS schools from a revenue standpoint, use them as scrimmage opponents in the Spring or fall before the season or even as a post season scrimmage for teams not making bowls. Then allow kids that were redshirt to play w/o penalty. I always thought it odd we allow better teams to continue practicing post season while teams that really need it can not.

So the post season scrimmage can prepare you for Spring. The Spring scrimmage can prepare you for August and the August scrimmage prepares you for the season........but I digress and lunch time is over..no more rambling.

Very disappointing to see both Brady Hoke and Darrell Hazell voting yes.

Some of these coaches voting yes, may need a job in a few years. Be careful what you wish for.

My BS meter goes off looking at some of these coaches who say yes. So many of them schedule 3-4 gimme games every year.

If BG and other non-power conference schools can't schedule big payday away games anymore, that would really hurt financially.

Arizona State's Todd Graham, who was in favor, echoed Saban's comments that fans prefer the Power Five teams playing one another. "Fans want to see those games," Graham said. "Players want to play in them, and coaches want to coach in them."

Yet another reason to despise that pos. How quickly he's forgotten from where he came.

Some of those results are hilarious.

Hazell: Really? That is laugh out loud funny. Purdue isn't winning any games unless they play the other schools.
Mullen: Smh.
Saban: I'm not surprised.
The entire PAC12: That screams desperation. Feeling like the next little brother?
Kill: Undecided? Come on.

As others have said, these guys really need to be careful what they wish for. You think coaching turnover is crazy now, just wait until you put together back to back .500 seasons and you're gone.

It amazes me how much these guys don't get it. There's a considerable portion of fans from the other schools and a ton of people who are against these concepts. Eventually these guys are going to split into their own division, and it isn't going to be as positive and flow the money in like they think. Fans are going to get bored. And it's going to get laughable when the SEC and Big Ten eventually just create their own league, because that's where this is headed. There is a large divide between the top 20-30 schools and everyone else.

Its going in the exact opposite direction it should be.

I would go to as many games as you can over the next few years. By then the MAC championship will be all that matters. No seat at the big boys table.

Bingo. There are many schools in this same position. Over the long term, it seems to me that it would hurt fan interest for these conferences to only face each other. The records would get less gaudy.

Yep there are so many teams from these conferences that only get to 5,6 or 7 wins because they play an FCS team and 2-3 teams from conferences like the MAC. When they start going 2-10 or 4-8 every year they'll have nobody to blame but themselves.

A lot of these teams use FCS games as an additional "bye" every year. Every year both Alabama and Auburn play an FCS team before the Iron Bowl. I think they're kidding themselves if they want to get rid of some of these get healthy games.
