I'd certainly miss the opportunity to upset the P5 teams. I like BG to test its metal against teams with all the advantages now and then. I guess I love the underdog in sports. However, I would not stop watching/supporting BG sports no matter who the opponent may be. I'm not going to blame BG for what the P5 decide to do and not supporting BG is causing BG harm, not the P5.
I love the game and have a special tie with BG as an alum. My loathing of all things BCS/P5 has grown in direct proportion to my support for BG, the MAC, the academies and even other non P5.
More Trouble Ahead for the G5?

I feel the exactly same way.Falconfreak90 wrote:BG football is so important to me and I don't ever wanna see us in a lower division. I absolutely hate what the P5 is doing...greedy bastards.
GO BG!!!

A bunch of them (especially the Purdue's of the world) realize that there's only 25 scholarships to hand out in a given year and the proliferation of high school football has rapidly increased the talent base. Schools with smaller budgets can still get 11 players like Ronnie Moore on both sides of the ball that might not hold up over a full league season but can still kick their a** on any given day. They (wrongly) think a loss to one of their supposed equals would somehow look better to their fans.Siborg wrote:I'd certainly miss the opportunity to upset the P5 teams. Saban has been talking about allowing 5-7 and 4-8 teams into bowl games due to "strength of schedule." He thinks that'll be enough to placate the P5 bottom-feeders and cause Hazell and others to vote against their own interests (which seems to be working).

Might as well give every team a bowl

I say let them, they'll water down college football worse than the NFL already is and a majority of fans will be turned off. I'm sure they'll change their tune soon enough when fans of teams like O$U and Alabama realize they can't play patsies and a two-loss season will remove them from the playoff conversation. The P5 knows they need the G5 to keep inflating their phony records every season so while there's a lot of talk about this, I don't see it happening for many years to come.mscarn wrote:A bunch of them (especially the Purdue's of the world) realize that there's only 25 scholarships to hand out in a given year and the proliferation of high school football has rapidly increased the talent base. If you're Nick Saban...you might as well give every SEC team a bowl. I think that's the impetus for the "strength of schedule" comments. I honestly don't get the P5 schools on this one... college basketball has problems with 18-12 big schools getting bids over 23-7 small schools (particularly on the women's side), but their tournament and structure in general is far more open than what the P5 is shooting for and the NCAA hoops tournament is a veritable gold mine. Hell..the rights to show all the games on tape delay is what put ESPN on the map in the early days.
Narrowing the field to hoard cash seems incredibly short-sighted.

MAC midweek games in November won't be going away...
