Today's scrimmage reports please
Any reports, both good and bad, from the scrimmage would be much appreciated. I can't make it but would love to hear anyone's take on it and their info. Let's hope for no injuries and a good outing. Thanks in advance!
GO BG!!!

Re: Today's scrimmage reports please
Johnson looked sharp. Good command. Maybe a couple of misreads or slow reads. One bad ball where somebody was not on right page. But, overall, he looked sharp. Real sharp at times. A lot of reps; a lot of throws. Good touch on several long ones. Looked quick- for him- on a couple of runs. 3 Knapke did a good job w the twos.
All the top WRs looked very good and comfortable to me. Burbrink and Jackson do what they do. Well. Ronnie Moore is quick- real quick- again. Dieter had one drop and a bunch of excellent catches including some in traffic. This guy is a good size target but also shifty after the catch. Roger Lewis is a player. Period. He can play. Gallon will be missed so a couple of other guys will have to step up.
Travis Greene sat out and will return. 28 Box Coppett looks stronger yet sleeker and faster. This guy likewise can play. He is legit fast. 2 Givens worked hard. 42 Pohlman's talents still in evidence in this offense.
O line did a nice job. 77 JJ Beggan at center so that would be a good group if he continues to come along. They are big- but not sloppy just as before. I think our depth is pretty good with several other players doing well on twos.
Our back four played well on defense. While we lost several good players there, the return of 1 D Hunter helps. He is a pure cover corner. Adje- Barimah made plays today including a nifty break up after the WR had actually come down w the ball. Ward is Ward and will be Ward. 3 Sutton has played a lot of football. I look for him to have a good year. And the group has help w Will Watson and others including youngsters.
7 DJ Lynch sat out but will return at LB. 27 RS frosh Nate Locke played well w ones. 16 Valdez looked like a real contributor after switching to LB. Others will play including 30 Senn.
The first DL and hybrid guys did well. 11 G Martin is nearly all the way back and played well. Big (re)addition. Colvin and Royster are big, strong and at times mean. 46 C Walker looked good. Montgomery and others will be there. 43 Thomas for example.
Our 6'7" punter is indeed 6'7". Windy today so he felt at home. Keep working Joe. Tate will make some kicks. He has experience and his snapper returns. Knapke new holder. Moore and Burbrink on KOR; Burbrink PR.
But the real answers lie in BG KY on Aug 29. Have to put it all together against an athletic group on the road. Tough assignment really.

Thanks for the info! What did the run/pass ratio look like?
Can't wait to see it live in 13 days.

Re: Today's scrimmage reports please
Our run game looked really good. I was disappointed Travis Greene couldn't go today, but happy to hear from him that it was just a small injury and nothing to worry about.
The pass game was also really good. After Dieter's first drop, I think he caught every other pass after that.
The QB that impressed me was Nolan Dieter. I believe he made a real case to be the #3 QB if he wasn't already, if not the #2. He was head and shoulders above Nicholas and Callaway in my opinion and played on the same level as Knapke. Probably not a fair comparison between Dieter and Knapke because Knapke played against the #1 defense while Nicholas, Callaway, and Dieter played against the 3's and 4's.
We had two people attempt punts today, and neither looked good at all. Everything was shanked. Joe Davidson and Nick Fields were the two different punters.
Overall, I REALLY like the scrimmage. The coach made an interesting comment: the refs held the game up. I can definitely see that being a problem this coming year. We ran a play roughly every 12 seconds, but we could have been down around 9 or 10 if the refs didn't stall a little.

Pretty much lost all credibility when you call Royster at 250 Big.falconfan1 wrote:Johnson looked sharp. Good command. Maybe a couple of misreads or slow reads. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
