I remember that Urban gave me a DVD of the previous season when he first took over the job...(we'd been at a meet the coach alum luncheon in Brecksville). Too bad we couldn't get these into DVD's and SELL them...I'd think there just might be a "few" of us who'd pay to get one.

Something scary I just caught one of the announcers saying during the MAC Championship footage. BGSU led the nation in time of possession. Our entire team was centered on stout defense and owning the ball. We're now completely transitioning to a speed offense and we'll probably have very little time of possession. That honestly worries me a little bit, but I'm hoping I'm not worrying for no reason.

Valid concerns. I think the first couple weeks will be a little bumpy. As coach said at media day, he'll know where the team is at once two-a-days are finished. I think our defense will be fine in terms of conditioning as going against this offense in practice will no doubt be helpful. I'm more concerned about the offense having problems finding a rhythm and not trying to rush things. Not trying to compare, but the Baylor/UCF game last year is what can happen if the offense doesn't start the game on time.

In 2009, Cincinnati was last in the nation in time of possession. They used a hurry up offense and ended the season 12-0. (They lost their bowl game badly when their coach left, and the interim couldn't control the players or even keep them from drinking way too much during the bowl trip.) With the style of offense we used, time of possession is huge. We are fundamentally transforming the philosophy of the team to a fast-paced constant pressure on both sides of the ball mentality. If ... if both sides of the ball pick it up and are up to speed come kickoff against WKU, think Oregon in the MAC.

Brad Fanning (the narrator of that 2001 video) also hosted a televised weekly coaches show with Urban Meyer and Gregg Brandon (at least for a couple years). Ball State and UB have these now and there's no reason why we shouldn't have one. Babers engaging personality is practically made for TV.
