In 2012 Houston had a new head coach and his offense was embarrassed game 1. Game 2 they had a new offensive coordinator. It's not unheard of.

14 3rd down conversions
702 yards
569 passing yards
46 of 56......10 incompletions out of nearly 60 passes. Unheard of. HIS WRs were wide open... Those were not hard passes. There wasn't anyone anywhere near them.

11 penalties for 96 yards
1 player ejected for throwing a punch
21 minutes to 36 in time of possession

This same defense gave up 17 total points in a month last year.

Whats the major difference? Who is gone of the starters?

Ted Ouellet 6-3 284 Sr®
Jairus Campbell 6-5 296 Sr®
Paul Swan 6-0 236 Sr®
Jerry Gates 5-11 219 Sr
Cameron Truss 5-10 183 Sr®
Aaron Foster 5-10 207 Sr

By far the worst game I've ever been to and the other BG fans around me echoed those sentiments. We got beat on nothing but screens, drags and posts. Playing zone the whole game with no blitz presence is hardly a scheme. I'm thoroughly disappointed and I hope Babers shuts the hell up about his stupid offense.

Dino and McCloud go back a ways...if he fires him after week one I'll eat a bug

It's frustrating to be rebuilding a championship team that returned a ton of starters.

Globe, that info indicates that is us not a personnel issue ; it's a coaching issue. It's not upsetting we lost to WKU; it's upsetting they hung 59 on basically the same defensive personnel we had last year. This was not Florida State, Oregon or Alabama. It was freaking WKU! Dino!!!! Are you kidding me? You had a smile on your face? I saw it. Smiling! I'm sure nobody posting to this board smiled during that disaster This defensive breakdown is ON THE COACHING STAFF. And if Babers does not admit that in the paper tomorrow then he's lost me!

I cannot express the absolute disappointment in the fact that we had the best D in the MAC and pretty much the entire country last year and this is the showing on day one? What the hell?!
I'm sorry, but you can't come into a new place and change the entire system and expect good results. That is pure lack of coaching/lack of reality. Clawson set his successor up for success - Babers tossed it out the window.

WINNER!!!!

The preseason talk is great..but when the season starts you actually have to show you can live up to the hype. I don't think we had that mindset tonight.

I don't know if I'm mad or shocked. How do you take one of the top defenses in the country and then just get absolutely demolished by what will probably be an average 2014 offense?

We were completely out-coached. It's not a talent issue, because you can see the offensive talent is there. Even defensively you can see some talent and we know a majority of these guys produced last year. You can tell it is a coaching/scheme issue because the same things were happening all night - screens, guys WIDE OPEN, no pressure at all, 10 yard cushions. If I can identify those issues, how is an adjustment not made? Shouldn't someone have said, "gee, our defense got Hulksmashed in the first half because we didn't defend screens and they destroyed us on underneath stuff; we should probably do something about that." Not one single adjustment.

It's too soon to start calling out Babers because we have all season left and this game means nothing in the MAC. Wait, no it isn't! You don't give up 59 points to Western freaking Kentucky and get off scotch free. You had the best defense in the MAC! Are you kidding me?! How does that happen?

I'm worried. I wasn't sold on a win, but I didn't think THAT would happen. It almost feels like everything Clawson did right for the program is gone - like we've taken a step back 5 years.

Sadly our only hope is that the MAC is awful.

I have never been under the illusion that we had a top ten defense. We shut down mediocre/bad MAC offenses the last 2 years. Good offenses find our weaknesses and exploit it. That said, this game was inexcusable.

Offense was average.
Defense never made the trip.

Of course it's s coaching issue. It's s new staff teaching a scheme that is a complete 180 from what Clawson was doing. I'm disappointed in the results (didn't see the game) but to act like we were not going to see some growing pains seems a bit short sighted to me. Personally I believe Babers's system can and will win here. It's just going to take time.

If you wanted to keep the Clawson momentum you don't hire a coach like Dino. But I'm not about to write him off yet. I believe in this style of football.
