"The Akron Zips now have an easy stroll to the MAC East title. With the Falcons declawed, and Eastern Michigan, UMass and Miami joining BG as home turf cupcakes, even if the Zips lose an Oct. 18 game at Ohio, it is doubtful they will lose another league game this season."
So now we're a cupcake home game for Akron and an easy crossover game for tsun. Mr. Alexander can kiss my azz....

Re: Thoughts?
Yep..were done for..no doubt about it...lets lower everyones expectations until we blow past them.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Thoughts?
I'm sorry but Akron can never call any FBS team a cupcake.
Re: Thoughts?
Especially when they are a "home cupcake" this week. What a load of rubbish. Somebody might want to remind the author that it has been nearly a decade since Akron won a conference title, went to a bowl game, or beat BG.kdog27 wrote:I'm sorry but Akron can never call any FBS team a cupcake.

Re: Thoughts?
He seems to speak in absolutes and forgets that the games still have to be played on the field and not on paper.
That said, I felt going into the season that Akron was going to be our biggest challenge for winning the division and that our weeknight visit to their place in November would have more to do with deciding our conference fate than any other game on the schedule. They built a ton of momentum last year and have clearly been moving in the right direction. If they come through their non-conference schedule of Penn State, Marshall and Pitt without suffering any major injuries, I think they have a very strong chance at playing in Detroit in December.
I do think that the significantly lowered expectations focused on us now will be a good thing for our guys and may help out in the long run. I'm not sure how much of either cockiness or pressure that went along with being the overwhelming favorite might have had to do with our first game results, but not being presumed champion worked out well for us last year and was probably of benefit in helping our guys stay in the right frame of mind.

Re: Thoughts?
A "cupcake"? I think the Falcons would be a .500 MAC team with Elton Alexander at quarterback.
He really provided us some nice bulletin board material. Akron will be a tough game. Akron may win. But BG is now a "cupcake"? Come on.

Re: Thoughts?
Someone call the commish...we might as well cancel the rest of the season since Mr. Alexander already knows the outcomes.
See you all in the basketball forum.

Re: Thoughts?
I am not ready to call BG a "cupcake" by any means, but I do not think we are a favorite any longer to win the MAC. In fact, I don't even think BG is a favorite to win the East any more either. Matt Johnson is/was that important to BG.
I think BG has fallen behind Ohio and Akron right now in the East and if the coaches had to revote that is where we would be. We also have to play both those teams on the road. Right now my vote is for Ohio to win the East. OU is already 1-0 in the MAC and has a MAC East win under its belt by beating Kent State on the road to open the season, plus they host both BG and Akron.
I see BG now finishing somewhere in the middle of the MAC East and probably at or near .500 by season's end, maybe 7-5. I see Ohio, Akron, Toledo, and Northern Illinois getting four of the five bowl bids. The last one would be up for grabs between us and probably Ball State and one of the directional Michigan schools, maybe CMU.
Of course, I would love to look back at this post in December, print it off and eat it. But that is my take right now with where things stand.

Re: Thoughts?
And should Akron and "stroll" ever be used in the same sentence?

Re: Thoughts?
In addition to being balderdash it's also zootomically inaccurate. Falcons have talons.Falconfreak90 wrote:http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college ... ed_stories

Mike, Also not to "nitpick" him but it wasn't 708 yds, rather 702...and Johnson was hurt in 2nd Q...though I DO agree he shouldn't have been still playing late in game. Then you just have your backup hand off 3-4 times, instead of letting him throw a pass or two? That brief experience could help in the future. Hoping it starts tomorrow.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Re: Thoughts?
Den, One of my friends as work says Elton is always giving BG the cold shoulder. Writes about Akron and Kent State a lot, as he should. The are both within a 40 min drive of Ctown. Says he also praises Ohio U and Miami a lot but never gives BG much credit. I don't see the PD much but it's obvious he has a beef with us. I am taking a wrapped cupcake to the BG/Akron game at Infocision Stadium on 11/4. After we win, I hope to get a chance to present it to Mr. Clueless About the MAC> He also called BG an easy cross over game for tsun. I sent Elton an email but, of course, no response.
I know we are not as favored to win the East now as we were...but dammit, we are still the defending champs. And we can still win the East this year. I'm not giving up at all...
BEAT VMI!!!

Kind of excited to see what Knapke has got. Time to move on from last week and the bad news. Still plenty of talent on this team to get to 8 wins.
