BG - Wisconsin game thread
Re: BG - Wisconsin game thread
Knapke took until the third quarter to get moving last week. He may get hot this game but unfortunately our D hasn't been able to keep us in it. But the second half could be entertaining if Knapke gets going.

Too bad the game is over. I'd put Calloway in to get him some reps. BG will give up 60 points.MarkL wrote:Knapke took until the third quarter to get moving last week. I'm essentially a bandwagonner. I only have so much time in my life. I have other interests. I don't put BG football high on the priority list when the defense is this bad. They can't tackle, they don't know how to cover it's not fun to watch. I don't fault anyone if they have them lower or higher on their priority list.hammb wrote:He basically said that everybody that jumped off the bandwagon after wku can't get back on even though we beat iu. Foolish comments, but I understand them. Unfortunately at bg all we have are bandwagoners.Globetrotter wrote:Ha what did he say?jpfalcon09 wrote:Wonder if Babers will make any comments about bandwagon fans again this week.
The last play was a perfect example. LB came in untouched and for some inexplicable reason ran right past the QB. Our guys can't break down and actually make football plays. They are falcon fast and run themselves right out of plays. I know almost nothing about fundamentals of football and it's pretty clear these guys have not focused on anything.

The number of missed tackles is astounding.

Three games allowing 40+ points. I'm not a fan of this style of football at all.

Well I love football and find us getting killed today still infinitely more entertaining than watching clawson ball. If the offense had done it's job we'd be within a td if them and nobody would be bitching. I'd much rather watch games that are played in the 40s and 50s.Globetrotter wrote:I'm essentially a bandwagonner. I only have so much time in my life. I have other interests. They sure as he'll aren't tackling today though...against a future first day draft pick, but still the defensive coaching has had them in position most of the game and the guys aren't making the tackles.

Re: BG - Wisconsin game thread
Every division 1 team we have played this year has scored over 40 points against us. Comparatively Only 1 team scored over 40 points against our defense in the last 2 years.
I don't care about getting trucked by Wisconsin. We are supposed to get trucked by Wisconsin. I care that they are woefully unprepared and the defense is atrocious and it's week 4. They haven't improved at all.

We only had one the last 2 years combined!jpfalcon09 wrote:Three games allowing 40+ points. I'm not a fan of this style of football at all.

Then I suggest you start watching when we get a new coach because this team will be giving up points in bunches. He'll it's designed to give up points. The idea is making the game longer and running more plays. Can't do that without the opposition running more plays as well. It's a forward thinking form of football and if the offense does their job it is hands down our best bet to play with teams like Wisconsin. Unfortunately it looks real ugly when the offense cannot get first downs and turns it over.jpfalcon09 wrote:Three games allowing 40+ points. I'm not a fan of this style of football at all.

Watching our DBs attempt to tackle gordon is comical.
I don't read too much into games like this because Wisconsin is so much better than us and anyone left on the schedule. The good thing that I see on offense is that Lewis and others are open against these corners. They will be running free throughout the MAC season. If we're going to win a title, well need to score 35+ each week. We don't get in good position very often and we miss tackles on the rare occasions when we are in good spots.

Because we played defensive grind it out slow the game down offense. There was no way we could give up that many points because half the game clock was ticked away between plays.Globetrotter wrote:We only had one the last 2 years combined!jpfalcon09 wrote:Three games allowing 40+ points. And this new style has already won more games against bcs competiton than the last five years of that other style combined. Wanna play boring football, get killed against our best competition, but occasionally win the Mac? Or play up tempo exciting football that when we execute we can play with almost anybody?
I'll take the latter and deal with the growing pains.
Re: BG - Wisconsin game thread
I guess I don't know what you mean by gimmick. I think of gimmick as running trick plays and flea flickers. This is a new style of football that is predicated on speeding up the tempo. You say I believe our offense is better than yours and by spreading the game out and playing more plays it will have a better shot to prove that. And we're going to be in better shape because we run this many plays every week and will make the plays to win it in the second half.jpfalcon09 wrote:It's a gimmick then is what you're saying.hammb wrote:Then I suggest you start watching when we get a new coach because this team will be giving up points in bunches. It's basically the exact opposite of what everybody here seems to love...slowing the game down and trying to grind out a low scoring game.
We can beat teams with physically better talent by opening it up and lengthening the game. We will never be able to out Wisconsin Wisconsin, and clawson proved that out by losing every time he faced a bcs conference foe. And he'll he couldn't even beat toledo that way.
I'll take my chances with this "gimmick" because it is the only way we'll ever beat better teams.
Re: BG - Wisconsin game thread
I like the offensive strategy. It makes sense. The problem I have is that the schools that made the system popular don't even fake wanting to have a decent defense. I hope babers is different and his staff actually spends some time recruiting the defensive side, but I'm not holding my breath. The "we'll out score everybody" won't work every week. At some point, you'll need a defense that's more than 11 warm bodies.
