Funny dodgeball, because you went the exact opposite direction with your conclusion than what I was expecting. I'm somebody that wants far more than the normal fan, like you. The reason I'm more level headed dealing with losses like Saturday is that I feel going to this sort of offense is EXACTLY what we need to get to that level (not that it's ever likely to happen regardless).
I believe last year was the absolute pinnacle of what can be achieved playing Dave Clawson football. We are NEVER going to have the recruiting power to line up in pro style offense and grind out games with power conference teams. Dave was a great leader, a good recruiter, and a pretty good football coach, but he had a ceiling.
I'm willing to put up with the growing pains of transitioning to a newer (in my view BETTER) style of football for the very reason you state you are not: I want more. As for where we'd be with Clawson this year I think we might have beaten WKU, I don't think we would have had a chance against IU or UW. And I'm not convinced that he would win 11 games with his backup QB playing all year either...maybe he would have, but we struck gold with Johnson last year, losing him really hurts.

Re: Enough is Enough
I think the hardest thing for people to accept right now is the lack of consistency with the team. I don't know how much of that is due to injuries, how much is due to changing philosophies or how much is due to the talent on the field. With Clawson you pretty much knew what you were going to get and I think many fans took affinity with that. The jury is still out on Babers and it likely will be until next season because of all the key losses. I'm keeping an open mind with him and I recognize his style of play is how we can compete with the P5 and be relevant in college football. Expectations were also very high this year from both the coaches and players which I believe has made some fans jaded, myself included. The next 8 games will ultimately judge how good this team is this year. I'm still optimistic and I think we'll see BG put up close to 70 on some teams.hammb wrote:Funny dodgeball, because you went the exact opposite direction with your conclusion than what I was expecting. The hardest thing for me to accept is the horrible defense. Its been consistently horrible. We returned 5 starters and 12 on the 2 deep. It's not like we replaced them with non scholarship athletes. This is the worst defense in the country. Make some changes and get it done.jpfalcon09 wrote:I think the hardest thing for people to accept right now is the lack of consistency with the team. Re: Enough is Enough
Five starters and three of them are out....and many of the upperclassmen have underperformed as starters. I know it's hard to work on fundamentals during the season becaus eyou have to spend most of your time on the game plan for a specific opponent, but wehn you consistently have safeties in run support coming up on pursuit angles that intersect with the ballcarrier several yards behind him or when you have defenders in a positon to make a tackle, but they don't...well...you're going to have to take some of that prep time and devote it to addressing those fundamental issues
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
