OU Tailgating / Bars

Post by thewebboy »

A large group of us are making the trip to Athens.

For those who have tailgated there before, where is the best place? Would love to set up near some other BG fans.

Here's the best map I could find Image

After the game, we plan to head downtown for dinner and drinks. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

My daughter attends OU so I'm down there several times a year for event weekends. The game day parking is VERY limited if you are not a season ticket holder or Bobcat Club member. I'm going to park in the lot behind Clippinger Hall which is building #81 on the campus map. On your map this lot is designated with GP just behind the orange color lot.. These GP lots are about the only places I've ever found to park for tailgating. The other GP lots are way down by the Field Hockey stadium and the women's soccer stadium-Not very close to Peden.

I'd love to have the Clippinger lot full of Falcon fans. It's not a huge lot, but hopefully I can get in there. I'm trying to arrive around 9:30. Keep in mind that the Homecoming parade is at 10:00 and it winds its way through downtown, straight down Court Street to Baker Center. I'm REALLY hoping that Clippinger is not closed as a result of the Homecoming festivities.

As far as bars- Crystal, The CI, Junction, J Bar, Pigskin, Courtside, Jackie O's(older crowd), Pawpurr's The Pub, Red Brick

All of those other than Jackie' O's are typical crowded college bars. Beware, because this is Homecoming and a lot of alumni will be back so they will all be busy.

For a meal, Casa Nueva is awesome as is Jackie' O's for pizza and Sol hwich is a Cuban place off Court Street down an Ally- Expect a wait.

No trip to Athens is complete with out hitting Big Mamma's Burritos, Goodfella's for a slice, or The Uptown Grill for a Waffle/Fried chicken Sandwich. The Burrito Buggy and Ali Baba's are also solid after bar choices.

In the morning, Village Bakery out on State Street, or Fluff and Court Street Diner uptown are all great. Again, expect to wait.
