Toledo is going to embarrass us.
Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
Been awhile since we had a troll. Welcome troll.
I am all for the system or a system to close to it. I was suggesting for us to run an offense similar to Auburn's while the 2013 season was still going on. What I do have a problem with is how how this system looks. Through 8 games we have yet to see them look good in all 4 quarters of a game. The Indiana game was the closest thing to 4 quarters of really good football for the offense. It sucks that Johnson got hurt as maybe we would look way better with him. Regardless I think there is a problem if you can't find a way to get the ball to Moore, Greene, Coppet, Lewis, Burbrink, and Jackson. There is a enough talent there to make a bad QB look good.
It is encouraging that the defense is showing improvement. I thought we were headed for the record books after the 5th game so it's great to see them play closer to their expectations.

Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
I've noticed this too, the opening drive always seems the fastest since its scripted and the plays have obviously been run all week in practice. The offense has struggled at times after that initial drive of keeping things going. I think it's no surprise that Knapke may not know the entire playbook yet and thus the coaches are limiting the plays being called. The last couple games have been cringe worthy at times with the offense. They look completely lost sometimes.kdog27 wrote:Been awhile since we had a troll. Welcome troll.

Well...I doubt Toledo can embarrass us as much as Dr. Falcon already has.

I didn't read through the 4 pages of trolling. But, I'll share my sentiments on the program and Dino. There was some grumblings from the stands about things at the end of the Western game.
The guy is 5-3, has beaten a Big10 team, is currently in sole possession of the MAC East and has the team in the drivers seat to get to Detroit for the 2nd straight year. He's done all this in his 1st year with a radically different offensive and defensive system, breaking in a young o-line, losing the preseason player of the year after 1 week, his best defensive player for a month, and his best defensive lineman for the year. Ok, then.
Oh yeah...next year coming back he will return -
20 players on the current offensive 2 deep (both losses are at tight end) + Matt Johnson + Chris Gallon + 5 star recruit Ronnie Rhodes.
Special teams returns, kicker, holder, punter, long snapper, kickoff specialist, punt returner, both kick returners.
Defense returns 12 (possibly 13 if Colvin is given a medical redshirt) off the 2 deep and will be experienced after all the injuries to seniors this year.
Sit back and enjoy folks.
Oh...and mark it down, BG beats UT by 10 in the Glass Bowl and then by 14 in Detroit.

Speaking of grumbling from the stands 137, I'm about ready to call the ticket office and ask if I can have my seats moved. The guys that sit behind me are absolutely awful. Doesn't matter WHAT Dino decides it's wrong. They spend half the time arguing about how terrible he is. Then the other half talking about how much they hate him because he's just going to bolt for a better job after this year. EVERY SINGLE WEEK.
Oh and they bitch about it every time we go for it (even if it works). Then after every home win they've been complaining about how "You can't feel good about this win!"
It's like I sit in front of the guys that started this thread...

Ha! What section are you in? Last week was the first time I really noticed anything. Around me, it was more grumbling about some of the decisions later in the game.hammb wrote:Speaking of grumbling from the stands 137, I'm about ready to call the ticket office and ask if I can have my seats moved. I don't like bashing fans, especially season ticket holders at BG (lord knows we need each and everyone). But, I don't understand the ones who just want to show up, sit on their hands and be grumpy.
A lot of it may have to do with how brash Dino is and the way he reacted about the fans after the IU game, I'm sure a lot of people are still getting used to the complete 180 he is from Clawson. Different in every sense. Personally, I love it.
Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
I love it too. Actually I even love the brashness. I cannot stand Norm Wamer, but catching Dino on there is must listen radio, IMO. Back up that brash attitude and you're golden, IMO.Falcon137 wrote:Ha! What section are you in? Last week was the first time I really noticed anything. And the style of play is infinitely more entertaining for me.
I'm in Section 15, FWIW.
I loved Clawson as well, he did a great job here and was exactly what this program needed when he arrived. But I'd much rather watch the Babers brand of football when it gets rolling.

Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
People...nt everyone but a large number...hated Dave Clawson from the beginning of 2010 until the second half of the Buffalo game. He was a guy who was never going to win the close one...he a guy who would never win the big one. It amuses me no end to hear people talk about what a great program he built here when they though he was an idiot for 3.5 years.

Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
I will happily say I never disliked the Clawson. I was one of the few people on here telling everybody that his track record indicated he would have a terrible year, then a bad year, then an okay year, then a good year. People wanted to cut off his head. I saw the potential, and I honestly still wish he was the coach here. However, I understand why he took the job at Wake Forest.
Also, although I don't like Babers' style of play, I'm adjusting to it finally. I hated it initially, and although that hate has been tempered somewhat, I still don't like it. Unlike some people, I don't find his style of play infinitely more entertaining. In fact, it was entertaining watching Clawson ball in my opinion. I'd rather watch us run the triple option than what we currently run. But, I'm at least at a point now where I don't gripe about it all the time. I will, however, gripe about running screens 57 times a game.

I was a Clawson man...even in 2010 and I'm on board with what Babers is tryig to do here. I don't think we can begin to judge until next year....apart from specific moves like playing Knapke when he appeared to be unable to throw right last week.

Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
I don't mind Babers as a coach. He's done some numbskull things this year like any coach will do but largely he's done what he's needed to do so far. There will always be detractors of any coach or philosophy, it's the nature of sports now. Either you bring instant results or you get criticized. As far as fans at games complaining, they have a right to do so as annoying as it is. I'd rather have them at least be passionate instead of the many people who sit on their hands all game and then leave at halftime.

We are sitting at 5-3 and control our destiny to get to Detroit.
That is more than I could have hoped for after that first weekend, when we lost to WKU by 28 then found out we lost Johnson for the season.
I am just enjoying the ride at this point.

Re: Toledo is going to embarrass us.
Hammb, just move around. Come sit with our group in 13.
Clawson was the perfect hire at the time. Just look at the roster now compared to what it is when he arrived.
Time will tell but, Babers seems like the right hire. His first year will be his worst here and he is likely to get back to Detroit. Not bad. Just start looking at the depth charts and recruiting and start stacking the talent up. I'm not worried. This thing is going to be rolling for awhile. Just enjoy it folks.
