Absolutely. Going forward, the offensive line terrifies me, but after the last 15 years, getting our five wins out of the way by the halfway point of the schedule is pretty nice. Find a way to win at Cincy on Thursday and they're in first place for at least three days.kdog27 wrote:5-3, I'll take it.

Was at the stadium yesterday and it was a great time. I don't know what to make of this team but I'm thrilled to death with a 5-3 record at this point. Going to be at least .500 when we get back the best player that any "contender" is waiting on having back...that'll be nice.
The line and run game have become a complete dumpster fire since Mack's injury, but Shanahan is still finding a way to get guys wide open every week. Hoyer is the most frustratingly inaccurate QB I can remember in Browns uniform over the years. He's frustrating because unlike most of the crap QBs we've had this guy actually sees what he needs to see and then misses so many throws. But he's also been making enough throws on most days to win games, and that's good enough for me...he's our Alex Smith/Andy Dalton.
Pettine needs to feed the Crow. West looked much better yesterday, and I know Tate is the reliable veteran, but they simply NEED to get Crow's explosiveness on the field again...the run game needs a spark and he has looked like the most talented back of the trio since day 1.
All in all, this team is 5 and 3 and I'm thrilled. We don't get a chance to enjoy winning records this late in the season very often (been since '07), so I'm going to take this opportunity to sit back and enjoy the ride

Geez...Tampa stinks...how do you not run the ball at least one time in three plays when it's Second down and 1 to go?

And something to note. Who was played the easiest schedule so far? Yeah...the Browns. Their opponents have only a .370 winning percentage. Not much better for my Lions, they've played the third easiest.

No doubt the Browns just finished up the softest 3 game stretch in NFL history. And they only managed to go 2-1 over that stretch.
Still there are no easy games in the NFL and no such thing as a bad win. All you can do is beat the teams in front of you. The win over the Steelers is looking good and the win over New Orleans is still a decent win.
Not deluding myself into thinking that they're playing well enough to match that 5-3 and go 10-6, but it is certainly possible. They have had a tendency all year to play to the level of their competition. This Thursday night game against the Bengals will go a long way towards telling me where the team actually is. I think they're good enough to play with any team, but I don't see them being able to eek out wins against the better teams the way they did against Tampa, Tennessee, and Oakland.
I just know it's fun to not be one of those shitty teams that finds a way to lose every single week. Even if it has come against a lousy schedule thus far.

Sure would like a couple plays against PIT and/or BAL back, though.

No s**t. Especially that Baltimore game that they had basically in hand and gave it away. The Pittsburgh game felt like a miracle to even be in it after the 1st half they played.TG1996 wrote:^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THAT.hammb wrote: I just know it's fun to not be one of those shitty teams that finds a way to lose every single week. We need Josh back badly. The line w/o Mack isn't good enough to build a running game if teams don't respect the deeper passes. And clearly without a guy like Gordon they're crowding the line and daring us to beat them deep. Gordon's presence should back off the safeties and open that running game up a bit again.
Re: Cleveland Browns 2014
And who knows what happens if we get PIT to overtime anyway. But the Ratbirds game...ugh. One first down and it's game over. Ugh.
Cannot wait for Gordon to get back. The current WRs have done a good job of getting open when needed, but not always very quickly and then still have to adjust at times to whatever Hoyer has thrown up. To add a fresh burner that can go get it for the stretch is going to be awesome. (Which is why I fully expect Gordon to get caught with a dimebag on the team bus headed to his first game back.)

Re: Cleveland Browns 2014
I believe I read yesterday that Hoyer has the worst completion percentage for throws of 10 yards or less. But is 5th best on throws of 20+ yards. Re: Cleveland Browns 2014
It sounds pretty crazy but from watching the games I'm not surprised at all. I think we all know he's pretty inaccurate with the short/intermediate routes. I'm also not real surprised he's one of the league leaders down the field largely becaus ewe don't throw contested passes to that part of the field very often. Watch most other teams and you'll see a lot of shots deep to let somebody make a play. We never take those because we don't have size on the outside. We don't do much deep down the middle either without Cameron, and he's been hurt most of the time.Warthog wrote:I believe I read yesterday that Hoyer has the worst completion percentage for throws of 10 yards or less. When hoyer is throwing 20+ downfield it's been almost exclusively against busted coverages off play action or the boot. You should complete a good percentage of those throws and few qbs have as high of a percentage of them as hoyer does.
He's a frustrating player, to be sure, but the best qb we have had in a long time. That's my conundrum...we've seen for years how hard it is to find a player even as good as hoyer...but at the same time I think he's not nearly good enough to take a team where you actually want to go.
Re: Cleveland Browns 2014
Cameron out again for Cincy with a concussion. Hope for his sake and ours that doesn't linger all season or longer.
RE: Hoyer, it was probably his own fault and he missed the throw by a hair, but the way he hung in on that throw to Tate inside the five. He knew he was getting drilled and did, but hung in to make that throw.

Re: Cleveland Browns 2014
When Cameron missed the last game it was almost a lock he'd miss this one as well with the short week. The NFL concussion program requires you to be completely symptom free for several days before getting back on the field.
Cameron is a remarkable athlete and downfield threat TE. But he is just always injured. Be interesting to see what he gets in FA this spring...

I'll take that too.
Hope the usual letdown doesn't follow.

Good lord, that was awesome.
Some guy on NFL Radio on Sirius after the game was figuring the Browns could finish with 9 or 10 wins. Slow down.
