Babers UT Press Conference
Re: Babers UT Press Conference
Thanks for bringing back the horrible memories of that frozen mud bowl! I sat thru every minute of that mess, on my birthday, no less, just to see it end that way. I went home from that game about as down as any game I have ever been to. The program was in a bad place and we had just lost in that fashion to a terrible, 1 win Miami team. Doesn't get a whole lot worse than that one. I think that put a permanent end to our grass field, if not mistaken.

I too stayed until the end and walked back to my dorm, was during my freshman year. Just one of the many disappointing football games I attended while in school, thankfully Anderson was the place to be with the women's basketball team during those years.

And I'll bet nearly ALL of these games were played on Sat.!Schadenfreude wrote:These are the ten biggest football crowds ever in Perry Stadium:
1. 33,527 vs. Toledo, Oct. 8, 1983
2. 31,007 vs. N. Illinois, Oct. 25, 2003
3. 29,724 vs. Toledo, Nov. 29, 2003
4. 29,210 vs. Toledo, Oct. 2, 1993
5. 28,110 vs. Toledo, Nov. 16, 1985
6. 27,333 vs. Toledo, Oct. 19, 1991
7. 26,860 vs. Toledo, Oct. 9, 1971
8. 26,483 vs. Toledo, Nov. 23, 2001
9. 25,616 vs. Miami, Nov. 15, 2006
10. 25,057 vs. Akron, Sept. 30, 1989
I see many October games on that list.
Also, only FOUR of best attended games after 2000? I've always questioned the excuses folks have made about our shrinking attendance. Got to believe that OSU and MEECH were pretty good in those times too.

The game weren't all televized though. Now of you stay home on a Saturday you can watch every top 25 team, that want the case years ago. Declining attendance is an issue across the board for college football

Bowling Green football was almost never on television before 2000. It is good to be on television, but it doesn't help attendance when the skies of November turn gloomy.
Also, the stadium is smaller. There isn't enough official capacity to even get on that list, really. We drew 23,717 for Indiana, 23,184 for Minnesota, and 22,396 for Boise State. I tend to think those crowds could have been bigger if we had more seats.

I find it pretty incredible that we supposedly drew more fans to Indiana than Minnesota and Boise State. That to me is another disconnect between the official statistics and the unofficial "butts in seats" eye test.Schadenfreude wrote:Bowling Green football was almost never on television before 2000. That's not to take anything away from the crowd that day, or from how great that game was...Indiana this year was most likely the greatest game I've ever seen played at Doyt Perry Stadium.

You are absolutely correct. I was there for all 3 of those games and there's not a question in my mind that there were FAR fewer people in the stadium for Indiana this year than there were for both of the other games. No doubt about it.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I find it pretty incredible that we supposedly drew more fans to Indiana than Minnesota and Boise State.
