In the attached comments from Bemidji's coach and player concerning this weekend's games at BG, they both referred to our "small rink". Is it just a matter of where the blue and goal lines are, or are the radii of the corners different from other rinks? Has changing things ever been considered?
BG's rink
Re: BG's rink
Isn't the placement of the goal lines and blue lines standard? I can understand the bit about the corners but the neutral zone seems like it should be same in every rink that's 200 feet long.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
Re: BG's rink
"Standard" rinks are 200'x85'. The difference comes in the severity of the curve of the "corners." Going back to the CCHA days BG's rink was always called egg-shaped for it's severe curves at the goal line.
The NCAA doesn't have a standard for the goal line and areas behind it. Its only rule be that it be between 10'-15' from the back dashers to the goal line. My guess without having measured it is that we are at 10 feet given their "comments."

There's only ONE person from the CCHA that ever referred to BG's rink as having "egg-shaped boards."BGDrew wrote:"Standard" rinks are 200'x85'. Come on people....I thought you were college hockey fans? The majority of d1 rinks out west are Olympic sheets. Thus to the Bemidiji player, our rink is "small".
Re: BG's rink
I've been to Bemidji. Their rink is 200 x 85, same as ours.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Sounds to me that they are looking for an excuse to LOSE! We'll be glad to accommodate them.
Re: BG's rink
By "out west" I assume you are referring to those schools that were in the WCHA before the re-alignment. Of those 12 schools only 5 (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Anchorage, Colorado Col., and St Cloud) play on Olympic size sheets. 5 out of 12 is only a "majority" if you reside in the White House or an insane asylum.apollo wrote:Come on people....I thought you were college hockey fans?
