That is unacceptable. Two points in 1/4 of the game?? This is the kind of thing we can't do if we ever want to win a MAC Championship. We blew this game as we led almost the entire way but simply couldn't close it out, essentially by not being able to score anything at all down the stretch.gmartin wrote:Only 2 points scored since the 10:00 min mark.

GO BG!!!
Re: Watch BG/UD game
I thought this team really came together tonight...up until the last couple of minutes. Damn I wanted this one.
I hope we fill the Stroh Saturday for Mr. Frack. And spank Cleveland State.

Just got home from the game. Not much to say, the last 10 minutes were brutal. Refs were whatever, BG didn't get much going towards the basket all night. Dayton's only offense was driving and getting fouled.
I don't understand the decision making with 35 seconds left. Really surprised Jans didn't take a timeout to get Holmes a touch.
Oh well. I left with a ton of positives. Coach Jans is going to have this team competing for a MAC title.

Re: Watch BG/UD game
This. I wanted BGSU to win just as much as anyone on this board, but if you'd have told me we would play Dayton in front of 12,000 fans in their arena and lose by four, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. I thought this year was going to be ugly, and NEXT year might show a few glimmers of hope and the start of a journey back toward the top of the MAC. I now feel like we are a year ahead of schedule, & I couldn't be happier.Falcon137 wrote:...Oh well. I left with a ton of positives. Coach Jans is going to have this team competing for a MAC title.
On the postgame radio interview with Todd Walker, Coach Jans was unhappy that we couldn't close out this game. And he should be unhappy; he's the coach, & he expects a lot from his team. I, however, am a fan who just wants to see our guys competing hard, and making progress. We saw that tonight, and again, I couldn't be happier.

FWIW, listening to Dayton postgame on the drive home - Archie Miller said he thought BG would win the MAC and be a NCAA tournament team.
UD's radio guys gushed about Holmes. Josh Postorino (former Dayton player , assistant coach at Dayton, Marshall, Clemson, and Georgia Tech) said he thought Holmes was one of the most athletic players Dayton would play this year and would be the most athletic player in the A10.
A lot of that is spin, but, BG was impressive in person. Jans had Dayton scouted to the point they couldn't run a play without a BG assistant calling out every screen and cut. They really get after it on the defensive end.

Re: Watch BG/UD game
I didn't get to see the game, and I'm as disappointed in the way it ended as anyone, but like others said if you had told me we'd compete with Dayton this early in year 1 I'd be thrilled. I can understand Jans being upset, and no doubt I'd be too if I watched us fail to score more than 2 points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
That said I love how this team competes, I love how this staff seems to hold players accountable, and I love how the coaches actually seem to teach the players. I've seen more coaching from Jans in the handful of homegames we've had than Orr showed in years. The program is in good hands, IMO.
All that said, these long offensive stretches are something we need to figure out. It's unfortunate that Orr never really brought in a true scorer to lean on. It's nice to have a guy like Samarco or McLeod or the like when your team offense goes into a funk...somebody that can get and make their own shot. I'm confident Jans will be able to find those guys, but it's gonna be the one thing that holds us back this year. Holmes is a good, if not great, player, but his offensive game has never been the dominant part of his repertoire.

Re: Watch BG/UD game
Not getting to the foul line has been a problem the last 3 games.
The refs were pretty terrible down the stretch.
Dickerson, Clarke and Parker all took ill advised shots at the end. We don't take high % shots when the going gets tough. That will have to stop.
Holmes is a stud.
We need a go to scorer in the final minutes or any time when we need a shot. We have guys who can score but not anyone who can do it when we need it.
This game was as frustrating as they come. We were up 11 with 10 minutes to go, scored 2 points over ten minutes and lost by 4. Thats a 17-2 run.

It's kind of funny to revisit that thread. Someone in the thread said there was a reason they weren't being recruited....Globetrotter wrote:http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB3/v ... on#p323564

Scott was voted captain this year.
Of course this is the same Dayton team who allowed a player back on the team last year after he was found guilty of violating the student conduct code for sexual assault. He was suspended for the 2012-2013 school year and then allowed back into school and on the team for 2013-2014 season.

Re: Watch BG/UD game
We are 5-2 and I am frustrated a little by our lack of getting to the line and development of a scorer/scoring. I think that's awesome. What a 180 in terms of expectations.
