Good article with recap of every bowl BG has ever played in. It sure brings back some names I had forgotten about.

Thanks for sharing.
I had never heard this story. Wow. Can't believe there isn't a local memorial.

There is, or at least used to be, a plaque in Memorial Hall (Anderson Arena) about the happenings.
Re: BG Bowl History
Hmmm...I used to work in Memorial Hall as a student even and had never heard about this accident. It was 13 years before I was born but I'm still surprised I've never come across it before. As they say, learn something new everyday.factman wrote:There is, or at least used to be, a plaque in Memorial Hall (Anderson Arena) about the happenings.

We played in the Mercy Bowl because of the accident.

The plaque is (I believe) on the wall to the right of the ticket windows.

Re: BG Bowl History
I've been to only three of the bowls (91, 92, and 03). I'm undefeated. I suppose I should go to more of them, huh?Rollo83 wrote:Good article with recap of every bowl BG has ever played in. It sure brings back some names I had forgotten about.

91 raisin bowl was one of the best football games I've ever watched at any level.. The final pass bounced right in front if me (I was on the sidelines of chia turf stadium). We received zero respect before, during or even after the game. Fresno was intent on winning in their swan song before moving to the WAC.
Silver Bowl nearly put me in the hospital for coronary problems. After Nevada scored their first TD, one of my friends turned to me and said, "yeah like that will make a difference." I shrugged knowing what heir qb was capable of. Still an excellent game.

Re: BG Bowl History
That 91 game was great...Mark Szlachcic abused Fresno's DB Marquez Pope. Pope had a pretty long run in the NFL, but he couldn't cover Szlachic to save his life.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
